Thanks for the video. I just did mine on my CLK. I didn't have a power polisher available. I just used 1) wet sandpaper 1200 2) Halfords rubbing compound 3) T-Cut 4) Autoglym Fast Glass Took about an hour or so. Huge improvement and they are mostly now very clear and smooth. There is a touch of misting inside the headlamp covers here and there but not as much a I thought there was before I started.

Best video on KZbin for headlight lense restoration
@bruceaugustine64867 жыл бұрын
Well done, I would like to suggest 303 Maring protectant for a final step it will provide UV protection. I buy it on amazon and it will make the lens so clear it will look like you removed the lens all together. I have done many headlights and it is funny to see the look on the customers face when their head lights are so cleac. I have had many say i thought you broke off the plastic they are so clear.

Just did this on my 1999 E320. Although I used novus heavy scratch remover compound and novus fine scratch remover. And generic sandpaper (1200 and 2000 grit) I got in an assortment from Amazon. Very similar results in minimal time.
@mattrix20077 жыл бұрын
this is great, i have same problem on my merc and need to fix it. this is by far the best ive seen so far. the only problem is, unless you're a car detailing/cleaning company it can be more expensive than buying the lenses. I like doing everything myself, but i dont have a polish buffer. The M3 polish in the shop is 78 euros for the small bottle, (and thats just one of the polishes you use. Thats the same price as new light lenses. If i could buy a small amount of the polish needed it would be cheaper, but the smallest is 78 euros.

Well, technically?? What you're "Removing" is the Thin UV Film laminate. That is indeed what turns cloudy or yellow. But without it?? your lenses will simply re-yellow again...only quicker.

Good to see why folk leave it into a workshop for this to be done. By the time you buy all the stuff you use, (about £200) it's not worth it for a one off DIY job even though it looks easy!

Is nice restoration job, but the sealer and wax will only last so long. To really make it last will have to put a clearcoat paint on it to long term keep the UV rays out, unless you want to clean, wax and seal every 2 weeks.

If you just put the TOOTHPASTE over the lenses and use the little wet small towel to rub a little in circular motion, the lenses will be clear like crystal ... I saw most mechanics or shops doing the way you do but it is not necessary and sometimes can damage the lenses .... Do the other way, you will see the result ....
