Good to see a SC guy going at it with his project pony.

Tank with a drain, so at the end of your driving season you can drain the gas out and use it in the lawnmower.

yep, that's about how it went when I changed mine....except I don't have a lift.

You should ALWAYS use a brass drift when removing or installing the lock ring. The lock ring is easier to remove and install if you use all the tabs on the lock ring to keep it centered. I always use 30lb roofing felt (aka tarpaper) between the tank and body and between the tank and straps.
@danwoodfield7575Ай бұрын
Absolutely use a brass drift. The last thing you want is a spark when removing or installing the lock ring. In my career I worked on live electrical circuits, refrigerants under high pressure and large gas burners. Nothing makes me more nervous than dealing with gasoline. Be careful.

Good idea. Brass drifts are great, but the nut driver another way.

Best way to remove/install the tank is a garage jack with a cushion/pillow on it to support. Takes seconds vs the gym session you displayed here! :)

I've decided to make the permanent switch to E85. I've replaced the whole fuel system to work with it. Car runs cooler. Higher octane rating, and they're putting more and more ethanol into our gas anyway.
@stuckinmygarage6220Ай бұрын
Any details on the carb? Are using additives?
@FabriceClosierАй бұрын
The original zinc plated tank of my 71 is still perfect shiny inside thanks to the lead fuel it still had inside since last time it ran in 97 or 98. My driving 73 coupe also still have its original tank. We do have in europe in most stations ethanol free 98. More expensive than the 95 mixed but cheaper in long run considering corrosion.

Wish we did here too.

Good one Jeff. my Dad would say there's right tool for right.. trans jack for second hands. Alway 91 non-ethanol. We have lots lakes up here. A thought float height when changing new send unit.. I know you use the old one. Take Care

Thanks for that.

I found that a pair of oil filter pliers actually work well on turning those clamping rings on the tank…..like butter…..

Non ethanol premium is easy to get where I live. On the other hand non ethanol regular is almost impossible to find.

Ah the struggles of what appears to be so easy, love the Round 2 tossed in. I’m guilty of these things myself , but when you were searching for blocks to help lift the tank my thought as question to myself was; Can you lower the lift and car a bit? 😉
@AutoRestoModАй бұрын
I could, but then I have to tilt my head.🤣

I did not know you cant buy galvanized gas tanks anymore. The Spectra tank does look nice! Hopefully it will last for decades.
@Dixler683Ай бұрын
@MrPoppyDuck… galvanized tanks are still produced. This guy is full of misinformation. You can even purchase countertops made of pure zinc.
@aguyinnc2865Ай бұрын
Fortunately, the former owners of my '73 had put a new tank on mine when I bought it. And since it has low compression (351C 2V) I can run regular non ethanol gas with no problem. And there is a gas station a couple of miles from my house that sells it. So low compression is good for something, but I ain't gonna be winning any races. Btw what gear ratio are you running on yours? Think mine is a 2.75. Cruises good.

Fortunately, for us pre-'71 owners, stainless steel is an option;)

I just coated the inside. $25 *** You need a work bench so you dont have to work on the floor.

I have a bench, but it is easier on the carpet.
