I’m annoyed just watching you use that death machine of a tool. You can’t use the national parts depot compressor? Or do the back yard jack, step to the side, have the car face an empty field. lol

Question. Im changing the points and condenser on my 1949 Dodge coronet. I know I need to find the high point(where the points are open all the way) but do I need have the motor at top dead center too or can I just set the points as long as I have it at the high point? I have the new condenser and points installed in the distributor I just haven’t set the points yet because I’m not sure if I need the motor to be TDC.

It wasn’t diverse enough. Just look at all the other content on cable. Reality has no place on Network television if there is no equity. THEY must rig everything to give the perception that the others are equal to or better then guys who look like Freiburger and Finnegan.

I'm glad Cam was there for emotional support. I've tried using one of the spring compressors like you showed, and they scared me half to death. I've now got one of those that bolt into the lower seat pocket. It's great to see the progress on that Mustang. How much longer do you think it will take? Two weeks? 😉

My guess is that the people who make the decisions from the company who bought them out decided its not worth the $$ spent on the show. But it sucks that corporate pretty much screwed the show. They should never have been placed behind a paywall. That was a nail in the coffin. But we've seen a ton of Car related media have been killed for many reasons. I'm not thinking its a "woke" thing here.

They're NOT $10B in DEBT either, that's a LOSS of PROJECTED income they won't capitalize on. DEBT is where you SPEND what you don't HAVE. They didn't and WOULDN'T spend $10B in a quarter, they have multiple Bs of $$$. They'll be fine.

sadly hot rod culture is not a thing for the young generation. Any car worth having for one of these projects is 50+ years old. A kid who is 20 now knows nothing of carburetors or non computerized ignition or roll up windows.

@3:15 no tinfoil hat WOKE Conspiracyism going on at all. They fell in line with the GND Libtards that run (or ruin) media. Starting with the Pilgrim Media deal that produced Street Outlaws and NPK. Is THAT the 95% of content that is "drag racing"? Dude, where have you been? They squashed that shit 2 and 1/2 years ago. Sure they stream reruns on + and cable. They lost $10B because nobody wants to watch gold miners and border agents seizing contraband.

IMO Roadkill and the associated shows showed us how to have fun without needing to be a millionaire. I admire what they build on Bitchin' Rides, to choose something well known from the opposite end of the spectrum, but the real message from that show is that "you" can't afford to be in the car hobby. Hopefully something else can come in and fill some of those gaps. The Powernation shows aren't on cable anywhere. FWIW, I think the Motor Trend network shot itself in the foot some by having a bunch of content you could only reach on their streaming service while the cable channel was showing the same content over and over again.

I considered Road Kill a comedy show, nothing that I would watch in my desire to increase my car knowledge; diagnosis and repair. I won't miss it but I will miss more informative shows on Motor Trend. I am now watching what I can on KZbin. What killed Road Kill? Motor Trend couldn't make a profit, pure and simple. The simple answer for corporations is what they owe to their shareholders. Without a profit stockholders will put their investment dollars elsewhere. Don't simply think of the small investors, think of pension and mutual funds which make decisions via computer analysis. As does Warner Brothers.

Sooo much fun! I've had luck using a piece of plumbing pipe as a spacer on the shaft to make work a bit easier, and zip ties to cinch the J-hooks into position so it does not require six hands to operate.

I've gone through this 3x with my Torino. With 351 & 429 springs. I use the same style compressor but space the top, by the driven end, out with washers between the hex and the non-threaded fingers. The goal is to compress that spring as little as possible and not tax a questionably manufactured tool more than you have to. I space it so the threaded rod is almost in contact with the spring perch when it's compressed just enough to get it out. I also slip cut bicycle inner tubes over the fingers because sometimes they try to slip (& spark) on the spring. Because of the way I configure the compressor, I use the weight of the car to help me compress the spring. I pull the wheel and rest the lower arm on a jack. The spring keeps in contact with the top of the tower and the perch as I squeeze the compressor and I only compress it as far as necessary to get the spring out of there once the jack in lowered. There's some trial and error with how may washers to use and there have been times where I didn't have the compressor in the right spot within the spring to get it reinstalled (the bottom of the threaded rod comes in contact with the perch), so I had to reposition it and try again. Installation is the reverse: I get it lined up and keep the weight on the spring as I unload the compressor. It's still not easy, still scary, but not as scary as compressing the spring with basically nothing above it or below it as the tension builds or releases. Configuration of the spring compressor was not something I came up with. Somebody on the Torino Cobra forum came up with it. I'm sure it can be found with a search. Unloading the spring and compressor and setting up the new spring is done with it laying flat on the floor. Both ends pointing away from me. Thick rug over the spring. One knee on the rug and slowly add or remove the tension with a ratchet using one hand. There's no safe way of doing this in a typical home garage. I try to stay as safe as possible and minimize any damage to me or anything else if something lets go. I've also attempted to use the "eBay spring compressor". Not again. Those things scare me! BTW, I bought one of those sought after Moog Ford spring compressors. Never used it. The thick threaded rod that came with mine has a slight bend to it. It was under a lot of tension sometime in the past to bend that rod!

I would of replaced the perches while I was in there. But they are a scary thing to use. I did it myself and I don't think I'll do it again in a hurry. 😊

The death of any series is due to ad revenue, which is based on ratings and the demographics of the audience. Top-rated programs can be canceled if the demographics do not produce ad revenue. Which group spends money? That's the demographic group they want. A bunch of 55-70 year old guys mostly on fixed incomes that like old cars are not the demographic that produces high ad revenue. Don't believe me? Green Acres, Hee-Haw, and other rural comedies were all canceled when they were in the top ten in ratings because the biggest audiences were in the south and in rural areas - places full of non-spending folks. Few in NYC, LA, Chicago, etc. were watching. So what replaced them? Urban comedies, the Bob Newhart show, Mary Tyler Moore show, et al. The Grand Tour was expressly stated by Clarkson in the last show as ending because the cars made today were boring and not worth testing. To go from testing Lamborghinis to Teslas wasn't interesting to him. More performance, perhaps, but less soul.

Those spring compressor are unpredictable. I have used them quite a few times and you always treat it like ticking time bomb. I had one let go after I placed it on the bench. The spring embedded itself into the wall and created a ten inch hole on the drywall. One of the most dangerous things a diy mechanic can deal with.

After seeing that one comment about carburetor, you can always tell if a carburetor is running too rich; when you slowly let off on the gas pedal it will seem to accelerate.
