Autoroute 50 Quebec - Ottawa to Montreal - September, 2024

Drivelapse video from Ottawa to Montreal following Autoroute 50.
The drive starts on King Edward Drive in Onttawa in Ontario before crossing the Macdonald-Cartier Bridge onto Autoroute 5 in Gatineau, Québec, Almost immediately in Quebec, Autoroute 50 splits form A-5. We follow effectively the entire length of Autoroute 50 from Gatineau to St-Jerome north of Montreal. The video heads south along Autoroute 15 to Autoroute 440. A quick jaunt east on A-440 leads us to A-25. The video ends following Autoroute 40 east into in Montreal-Est.

thanks for the upload! you'll have to do again next year though, considering that they're going to be finishing the extension near Mirabel by the end of the year (December 2025) I was working in Montebello this past summer, and I always liked the drive along this highway. During bad weather the highway is practically undriveable, but on nice days it was great

I'll probably record it again next year in the westbound direction. I'll want to record the northbound lanes of A-15 once the HOV lane opens, so tying that into an A-50 video will probably make sense.

Nice to see a take of A-50 with the portion through Buckingham complete, seeing as traffic was still contraflow in the westbound lanes when I filmed it in late June. On another note, the construction on A-15 is quite infuriating, but I’m sure it will be nice when it’s done. Beautiful early fall colours, nice work on the video as always.

I was fortunate to have a very beautiful early autumn day to record this video. I was surprised at how long it took to fully open A-50. I drove it in early August and had figured that the new lanes would be open then, but they still weren't at that time either.

NIce video. I started doing driving videos last year of the secondary and back roads of southern Quebec. My first video was from Lachute to Montreal taking Rte 148, A640 and then the A13 then the A20. My drive took me on the A50 overpasses at Exit 260 and 272.

Awesome video. Do you prefer A50 or 417 if you head between Ottawa and Montreal?

It depends on the destination, but I probably prefer the 417. Thanks for the comment.

@ yeah the 417 is better because if you take a50 you have to go through traffic on the a15.

@ besides, A-40/hwy 417 is the most direct route between Montréal & Ottawa/Gatineau. Plus, unlike A-50, it's a 4-lane divided highway for its entire route

Getting to Autoroute 50 through Ottawa is a pain. Whichever bridge one ends up crossing, it's always a hassle to get from the 417 to A-50.

It's nice to see some of A-50 completed east of Gatineau. Seeing A-50 completely twinned (Which is most likey several years away), will certainly be an important improvment to the Quebec highway network. Do you know when I-15's northbound HOV lane will be completed too?

I'm not 100% certain, but I believe the first phase of the northbound HOV lane on A-15 is scheduled to be completed in 2025. I believe there will be another phase in the future to extend it to the south to just north of the A-640 interchange, but I'm not sure on the timing for that. Thanks for the comment.

Great drive! Have you heard Maryland governor unrevealed about new cable-stayed bridge that will be built where the previous Francis Scott Key Bridge was collapsed caused by ship collision? The cost will be around $1.7 billion US dollars ($2.4 billion Canadian dollars) and the whole federal government will pay for it.

I plan to make more 400 videos as more of the improvements are complete. I will certainly record another video once the HOV lanes are opened to Highway 9 later this year.
