Drivelapse video touring the Metropolitan Autoroute (Autoroute 40) in Montreal on a beautiful afternoon in late summer. The video starts on Route 344 and Autoroute 640 before following Autoroute 13 southerly to A-40 across Montreal Island.

Another amazing video from you! I'm pleasantly surprised at how green Montreal's expressways look compared to most in North America. The elevated section of Autoroute 40 is awesome, there's a bit of an European/Asian vibe about it!

The Mét is a really unique freeway from a Canadian perspective. There isn't another road quite as urban as it is. The Gardiner is similar in that it's an elevated expressway, but it's so Downtown focused that it doesn't really seem the same as this one. Thanks for the comment.

The A40 reminds me of the Gowanus Expressway in NYC. Same sort of elevated freeway that was rammed through a dense, mid-rise, urban area.

As always, Quebec has the best numbering system for freeways in all of Canada! Thanks for the vid and great music choice!

Some parts of the A40 would probably fail nearly every highway standard out there today. The Decarie interchange with its sharp turns and narrow lanes with limited off lane gaps is a prime example. Gives interstate 87 vibes for sure! With that said Montreal is such a beautiful city and the highways while less than ideal to drive on do have way more personality than the generic 400 series of its western neighbor.

Montreal and Toronto certainly did have different design philosophies when it came to expressways. Thanks for the comment

The 400 series of the “western neighbour” are far more superior in comparison. I prefer the reliable, safe and “Generic” nature to get me where I want to be with the least amount of trouble. 400 series are built to help push large amounts of traffic in the most efficient way! Not grandpas Sunday drive!… Autoroute system has no excuse for being so bad! Where did the money go?? To much corruption!! Its to in your face! Two very large auto expressway systems in a first world country! One looks well designed and maintained! The other looks like something that you see in Venezuela! Where did the money go?

Great video as always AP. Québec’s freeways are such an interesting drive in contrast to the Ontario freeways I’m used to and love. I'm also quite pleased to see how much Transports Québec has improved freeway construction over the past few years (although they still have a lot of work to do). Also, I’m curious have you recorded the reconstructed 401 in Mississauga/Milton yet?

Quebec definitely has a different design philosophy to freeways than Ontario does. I have driven the 401 widening between Milton and Mississauga a few times, but I haven't recorded it yet. I'm planning to wait until more of it has had top coarse pavement laid down, it look better once it's actually completed.

Great video! The Met is always such a fun drive that reminds me much more of New England etc than it does the rest of Canada.

There isn't really an equivalent freeway in Canada to the Met. It definitely is more reminiscent of something in the US northeast.

Great drive! Did you know the Asian equivalent name "Autoroute Métropolitaine" and also "Autoroute Félix-Leclerc" is Metropolitan Expressway and Félix-Leclerc Expressway?

Finally, a Quebec video, just 3 days before my 16th birthday. Definitely gonna consider this as an early birthday gift. In my opinion, the Montreal aera highway system really needs improvments, as it suffers from outdated infrastructures. For example, the A-40 at it's busiest point (about 200 000 vehicles), it has only about 3 lanes/direction, which is definitely not enough. It should actually have at least 4-5 lanes/direction. If the A-640 & A-440 were both extended west to the Montreal island, that would've definitely elleviated some congestion of the A-40 in Montreal

More lanes just mean more traffic. I don’t think you know what you’re talking about. Have you seen how close buildings are to the highway? There’s no way it can be widened

@@alexishoude4449 you don’t want wide highways in telling you. Just take a look at American cities and how almost half of their space is taken up by car infrastructure, which pollutes a lot, takes too much space, isn’t accessible for disabled people, is very expensive to maintain which takes a lot of taxpayers money ans I is expensive to people who want to own a car and contributes to the heat is on effect with all the concrete around

@@Mrtoz-ct3yn Yes, ik, it's unfortunately not always possible to widen highways in such very small spaces

There are certainly some sections of freeway in Montreal that could use some infrastructure renewal and some potential capacity upgrades, but that's true of most cities. Thanks for the comment and Happy Birthday.
