Going for my class 1 next year, will be driving a truck equipped with one of these. Why not just a normal manual transmission? What benefit does removing the gear selection bring? Am I misunderstanding it?

It's supposed to aid in fuel mileage. They claim that an automatic transmission whether it's auto shift or ultra shift or I shift will get far better fuel economy than someone manually shifting.
