Absolutely brilliant! Easy to run step by step side by side with your own effort. My first ever attempt of video which I did with a Canon R7 4k crop video with a 600mm +1.4x ext. Just guessed the settings, not tracked this time, also about a minutes video - and yay, gone from a fuzzy blob to a sphere with colour and banding and the polar region after some PP in ON-1. Can't wait to try some more sophisticated stuff now. Thanks again.

Hi Wido! Having used AutoStakkert! quite a lot, I still learned a few things from your well made and instructive tutorial. It was very clear. My own personal choice is to stack just the best 25% of the frames but I often capture between 6,000 and 10,000 frames so there are still a lot to work with.
@AstroForumSpace3 жыл бұрын
Ah that's great. Yes when you have so many frames at your disposal you can be more selective. I usually end up with 3000 per minute. Need to check, I think there's an issue with my usb connection.
@martynh54103 жыл бұрын
@@AstroForumSpace Last year with the inexpensive Sv305 camera I used it’s highest gain setting which reduces the exposure time per frame. That way I was able to run at around 100 frames per second to create an SER format video in SharpCap. So 10,000 frames takes only about 100 seconds. I converted the SER video to AVI using PPIP software prior to using AutoStakkert! followed by Registax.

Excelent, Gracias. I wonder: if is not good to stack directly in registax. Or is better stack in autostakert, becouse autostakert is better with stacking and registax is better with later definition on wavelets? And, if we want to keep procesing later in reigstax, we need to save file in TIF format? or it doesnt matter? Thank you and clear sky✌

Cropping prior to stacking will speed up things but can be detrimental for certain captures. For example: an astrophotographer using a Dobsonian where the planet crosses the frame. The only advantage cropping gives you is pc processing speed. I would recommend to anyone, especially those not tracking, to crop during final edit. It’s also possible to pick up edge artifacts post stack that you’ll have to clone stamp out whereas had you left the original video dimensions intact… would have been able to easily crop out. Additionally, especially concerning non tracked, I would suggest creating a stabilized version of the video in PIPP prior to using Autostakkert. This would allow a much cleaner read across align points. That’s all I can think to add.

Great video-- thank you. One question for you. The Quality Graph is displayed after Analyze is selected. The green line represents highest percentage quality on the top left moving to lowest quality percentage to the bottom right. If I use the mouse to hover over any point in the last 25% (to the right of the 3rd BLUE line in the graph) some of the gray lines have quality of 75-80%. What are these images doing here in the graph? I would think the Quality Graph would show that GREEN line associated with high quality gray lines (images) on the upper left declining to lower quality gray lines to the lower right. In other words, the gray lines are not ordered in Quality. What am I missing?? Thank you.

Can one use Autostakkert3 to align and stack multiple single frame photos of the moon that are NOT part of a video. I use Asiair Plus which will stack frames in a video, but the maximum resolution is only 2-megapixels, so the moon is clipped. In contrast, full frame images taken in the Preview mode give 9-megapixel images, so the moon is not clipped.
@AstroForumSpace2 жыл бұрын
Yes, I believe that can be done using autostakkert. Another option would be Registax6.

Hi and many thanks for your great videos. I wanted to ask, is the final picture in tiff format? Checking the outcome of my process, (after using pipp) results a small size tiff image. Is this what Im expecting so then with this image to go and use Registax to process further? Obviously Im doing something wrong? Thanks again. Nikos

Hi Wido, I hope your family is feeling better. Is it better to use 8 bit or 16 bit when recording the video?
@AstroForumSpace3 жыл бұрын
That's a good question. I've done both and I personally think it's a bit of a trade off between getting a higher FPS in 8 bit vs higher quality in 16 bit. I've seen great pictures with 8 and 16 bit files.

To calculate Arc Seconds Per Pixel, divide the pixel size by the focal length, then multiply by 206.265

I don’t understand when I capture with Asiair the lowest quality I used the planet looks bigger and versa Should be the opposite? And question, what quality format should be good 1080 or 720p?
@AstroForumSpace Жыл бұрын
It's not related to quality but capturing area. At 360p, the asiair is using 360x480 pixels of your camera, so it looks like a zoomed image:. 360p (480 x 360) 480p (640 x 480) 720p (960 x 720; Wide 1280 x 720) 1080p (1440 x 1080; Wide 1920 x 1080). I have a dilemma, I would like to buy the best equipment for deep sky observing and was thinking buying a mono camera would be best, however I do not want to pay for an expensive subscription to Photoshop, its not as though I wish to sell any images. If I use free software such as Gimp or Siril.. which are obviously more complex and inferior to use, then is it then worth getting a mono camera? I don't like being tied to a subscription and the price/yr for Adobe PS looks ridiculous.
@AstroForumSpace3 жыл бұрын
Hi Robbie, There are some alternatives...most people use freeware such as deepskystacker to stack their images..But for processing stacked images most people either use photoshop or pixinsight. Photoshop is subscription-based nowadays, although there may still be some stand-alone packages available. Pixinsight has a commercial license option which is also expensive. You could try other photo processing tools but there's a reason most people use PS and/or Pixinsight...
@Mobius3c2733 жыл бұрын
@@AstroForumSpace Ps elements seems better for me. It is not so much the money it is more the fear of being tied to an annual subscription. One other question is since we have alot of rain in the UK and my set up is portable is it difficult to merge LRGB images spread over different dates ie with the set up of camera not identical in each succeeding session. The camera may be orientated differently for example?
