i would never consider the 5k rig after this video. even if i had the money
@johndaley9188Күн бұрын
The more you spend, the better the results. The decision on HW selection include factors other than cost. Weight. I and many others have physical challenges that limit how much I can lift and carry around. How many big rigs are collecting closet dust. Time. We all strive for perfection however, accepting, good enough, must be included. Anything after that becomes an obsession. Hobbies are supposed to be enjoyed during off/down time. Do what makes YOU happy, not what someone else thinks you should do. This video is one of the best I've watched in a long time. Thank you for keeping it real. S50 and S30 owner.

Got mine and immediately had an issue finding the sun in planetary mode. It worked initially, however when I recentered the image, the autofocus went haywire. I restarted the S50, oriented the compass and releveled, but it could not find the sun - not even close enough to manually center. Will try on some galaxies tonight but may have to return the unit. Seems like a software defect. Might be a problem focusing with the solar filter that it cane with. LOL 😆

I like your kind of told story about astronomy. I bought a seestar s50 and this device makes a lot of fun. For this low price it is a very good astronomical guided camera with amazing results in photos. i am living in Essen / Germany and the most nights are cloudy. But is it clear, i spend the whole night on my balcony with the seestar s50. Thank you for your great videos and best wishes from Germany. Norbert Meyer

This is an interesting exercise. But I'd have to say, it really does not show which scopes are actually used most for astrophotography. What it does show is which scopes are most used by social media posters. Now myself I would never post my pictures on social media, as I don't expect to take pictures superlative enough to be posted publicly. I enjoy capturing and processing my pictures myself, and I share them, and my enthusiasm for them, with my friends and family. I would suspect that there are many more people using telescopes for astrophotography as I do, than there are posting their pictures on social media. If this is true, I'm not sure what it might say about your results. I suspect that one factor would be that your survey scews heavily toward high-end equipment used by the most proficient practitioners (especially those able to observe from a permanent location). That info is doubtless very useful to those looking to enter that elite group, but probably not the best guidance for less ambitious souls looking to enjoy the hobby. And, of course, an awful lot has changed in the two years since this video was posted, especially in the area of equipment easy for beginners to use for astrophotography.

Vespera better in general
@Astromomy14 күн бұрын
The Seestar S50 is much better than the Vespera in my opinion because it’s nearly 4x cheaper and gets similar if not the same results but if your not worried about price than get Vespera

Not a good comparison, more like showing off. I would have expected at a minimum to have equal light gathering time OR more interesting would be giving the dwarf 3 double the time to see how much you can extract being a smaller scope. Regardless that 5k rig takes some amazing shots!

I need some help to try and Polar align Dwarf 3! Are these the correct steps.1- Level Tripod 2- Mount and face Dwarf's back north and front facing south 3- since I can see Polaris I want to point lens to zenith, and then tilt scope to 31 degrees my Latitude, center Polaris in lens and adjust as per EQ direction on phone 4- When I have it close enough as per direction (here is where I have a question) Do I or can I just move the lens only up higher to more stars for the calibration not moving anything else? I assume it will ask me to calibrate or do it automatically. Reading about it from so many places I got confused. Am I missing any steps or adding too much here. Any help would be appreciated. Thank! John

Eventually, we will use this technique with our super-duper big rigs. We start the session and don't have to do anything. Life will be easy! Maybe at that time, processing will be done by smart AI processing software. That would be great! ❤

I have the asiair plus and use it with the asi553mc pro with a clestron mc-9 on a star adventurer gti for planetary. I am thinking of getting the asi533 mc pro to use with my nexstar 8se with a wedge mount and a focal reducer for DSO, what do you think of this combination? I might get a refractor sometime in the future, will see how things go.

Hello! Great video - very useful information! One question I have.... I am using an ALT/AZ mount on a polar wedge (it is a Celestron SLT Goto). I polar align the tripod and mount before starting - but should do the Star Alignment also before starting the guiding with PHD2? Or do I just let PHD2 calibrate and align itself? I have not managed to get guiding to work yet with this setup, but I know it can be done.... Many thanks! :)
