How do you reference the previous record in an alphabetical query. If it was record number, I would just say -1. How do I say Alphabet - 1? I use this to locate page numbers in various dictionaries. Knowing the page that the previous record (in alphabetical order) occurs on, means I can go to that page, and be within 1-2 pages of where the new word lands on. It may sound easy to look up alphabetically, but it is much faster to have the bulk of your look-up with numbers, then fine-tune by alphabet. Especially for us non-native speakers. Thanks for all your videos!

I got your email, and I'll help you come up with a good solution since you're a Gold Member. In the mean time, you could try using the GoToRecord command with the PREVIOUS option. In other words, FIND the record you're looking for and then back up one.

I keep track of our farm animals on Access. In my forms I have quite a few 2 check fields. If one is ticked, the other needs to be unticked. I have been trying to make it so when I tick one, the other unticks. And vice-versa. For example, is there any way Access can untick "Alive" if I have ticked "Dead"? It really throws off my reports when I forget to untick the opposite check field.

Is there a reason you're using two fields instead of just one yes/no value (alive=yes, dead=no). You could also use a combo box or an option group.

But yes, to answer your question, you could use an AfterUpdate event to "uncheck" the other box. 599cd.com/AfterUpdate

@@599CD The ticks are in the same form, but not beside each other. As much as possible, I have the access forms match the paperwork that we enter the data from. Ticking "dead" stops all new billing, cancels appointments, etc. Since all of my customers are either disabled or elderly, unfortunately dead is required. We also have about 5 other ticks, such as male/female, etc. But those ticks are together.

Actually, I can see this as solving a lot of data entry issues in my field. Where if one thing is true, another thing cannot be true. However, in my case it would involve multiple items that cannot be true. I handle 2-3 problems per week that turn out to be data entry errors.

You can make pretty robust solutions in a BeforeUpdate event once you understand programming. For example, if you want to make it so that people from NY over the age of 50 can't do something: If State="NY" and Age>50 then Msgbox "Sorry, not allowed" Cancel = TRUE Exit Sub end if I've got a video on this coming up for TechHelp soon, but I cover this event (along with AfterUpdate) in my Access Advanced 3 class: 599cd.com/I15A5

@@599CD Dear , Do you have course connect Mysql with Access???
@599CD3 жыл бұрын
Nope. Haven't covered that one yet. I don't use MySQL personally. I am going to be covering SQL Server though.

The problem I have with Access is that a filter is far to specific. I want the filter to take me to the closest record, but allow me to scroll either up or down (alphabetically) from there. I have moved an excel spreadsheet into access with about 15,000 records. I like the spreadsheet format because it allows me to see similar selections and select the correct one. However, with Access, I have to type in the correct name and spelling. If I knew this, I wouldn't be looking it up. With Excel, I could highlight the column I wanted to search, do ctrl-F, then it would take me to the closest match. So if I enter a farm name/farmer, etc., I also need to see other fields to select the correct record (soil type, region, sample, date, results). Can Access do this?
@599CD3 жыл бұрын
Sure. Instead of filtering the results, you could do a FIND like that right in your form. I would use continuous forms so you can see them all like a spreadsheet. 599cd.com/Continuous
