In 1976 I bought a 66 Chevelle with over 300,000 miles on it for $300. I took out the oil-burning stock 6 cyl and dropped in a 327 I built out of used stock car racing parts. It maybe had only 300 hp but it almost got me killed several times. I was a hot shot 18 year-old that couldn't resist squealing the tires at every opportunity and burying the speedometer needle past where 130 might be. This on bias ply tires and drum brakes with standard steering and transmission. I've discovered that there is something about the sound of a loud engine that triggers a testosterone response in a male brain that makes him do crazy things and think he's immortal. I had to get rid of that car or I would not have lived to the age of 64 to be writing this today. In fact, the day I brought my first baby home from the hospital is the day I instantly changed from an offensive to a defensive driver. As cool as this rebuild is and the way it sounds, it's way too tempting and dangerous to go for that adrenaline rush on public roads. Look at how many supercar fail videos there are by people who are showing off and can't handle the power, then lose control. I wouldn't be surprised if that red hot rod that crashed at the end of the video was being driven too fast and couldn't stop. These souped-up creations don't have airbags either or maybe even standard 3-point seatbelts. Slow down before you kill yourself or some other innocent people. If you want a thrill, take it to the track. Or go skydiving...
