1965 Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe | Tribute by Superformance

We finally got to shoot the Daytona Coupe which means I finally got to drive it!! The history of the original Daytona Coupe is astounding. Only 6 ever produced and it went from a 289 original Cobra to the Daytona Ferrari killer in 90 days! From cocktail napkin drawing to completion in 90 days. No, this isn't a real one but it is the closest any of us will ever get to driving a Shelby Daytona Coupe.

@@AutotopiaLA Building an FFR Cobra or Daytona is on my bucket list......When I first started inquiring about their cars they were/are so totally supportive. Invited me down for a visit, more than happy to help anywhere along the build, and since I live in Canada, put me in touch with an importer who can help me get it into Canada since we have a law prohibiting "kit" type cars. I follow Vanguard Motor Sales out of Michigan and they buy and sell both Superformance and FFR cars and they do in depth reviews on them and they are fantastic vehicles.

I've always thought you were more of a Chevy and MOPAR guy, Shawn. But the respect you show Shelby and Ford with their 1960s cars is very admirable. That decade made me a Ford fan for life. Love this car. Would take one over a GT40...well if that day ever came it would be a hard decision to make.

Awe yes...another car I'll never be able to afford....three degrees in engineering, million dollar aerospace projects, and youtube fools make millions. Something just ain't right here . If it weren't for the brilliant engineers who create these beauties, the thieving rich wouldn't have them to purchase. So how about some love for all those engineers who studied their butts off in college, for go'd the parties, and drugs so they could pass calculus, differential equations, linear algebra, physics, chemistry, geometry, trigonometry, statistics, digital circuitry, digital logic in assembly, thermal dynamics, materials properties, stress analysis, quantum mechanics, failure analysis, aerodynamics, hydro dynamics, industrial manufacturing engineering...just to name a few.... Without any of the above extremely difficult subjects, and the stupid smart, hard working engineers who made it through them, we all would still be riding horses...remember that. I can't remember when it was posted but you did a top 3 cars to own if money wasn't an object. I actually just watched it yesterday and did my top 3. One of my cars would be a Superformance car. Not a Daytona but had we each gone to top 4 or 5 the Daytona would have been on my list. And like my other choices I haven't even gotten to drive one. Such an awesome car man. The aerodynamics that improved the gas mileage are the reason the car was able to win races. Faster on the straights allowed it to walk away from the Ferraris. And improved gas mileage means that the engine is not working as hard. Improve durability of the engine and entire drivetrain.

This is my First Superformance Cobra Daytona Coupe, it is just fantastic, I then added a 1966 Superformance Ford GT40, the next one was a 2005 Ford GT and then a 2021 Ford GT I am a Ferrari man with a long story with them, but you have to give it to Ford, they did a fantastic job too

How lucky we are that Roush Performance is still around. Back in the early 2000s I was working with Roush & Ford and was able to work on and ride in the Ford GT Proto Vehicles. Wow, a truly dedicated bunch of people. Great review on a great vehicle, a Historic Vehicle!

I can draw and design a car on napkin. I am an artist and engineer. If you have the $$$ I can make it happen. I am an Aerospace Engineer who works as an aircraft/spacecraft structural and thermal engineer. The reason for the “Over Engineering” of today is because “If the paints are there you must use them.” CAD and CAE are useful but restriction bring out inspiration in art. Peter Brock had to work within the rules and he made a masterpiece. I will bring my design to market, a modern GT.

Are you mad? Ken Miles was an Englishman and won the 24 Hours of Daytona and the 12 Hours of Sebring in 1966, and placed second at Le Mans. Miles died in a crash while testing Ford's J-Car.

Replica Shelbys remind me that it's okay to have a GTO clone. Badass and fun go hand in hand and only the owner can make their car their own and have that fun with their toy. Beautiful car, but what is the point of using downdraft carbs when the flow is restricted by the honeycomb contraptions sitting on the stacks. they are killing air flow, the stacks need to be kept clear and draw in still air all around its radius, that is how they are designed to work. A proper filter box needs to be designed here with a good K&N filter that will fit around all the stacks.
