Everybody is ripping on this guy because he's annoying, but you know what, this is a guy who actually knows and loves his car. So many rich guys buy these things as expensive toys and don't know the first thing about them, but here's someone who probably has a few million in the bank and actually knows every single nut and bolt of his car, and loves to talk about it and share it with people. Good for him.

TJP77 right! he has to fit years of extreme passion for the car into five minutes! very very hard to do if you ask me.. But the only thing he shouldnt have done was ruin a original D COB COUP (fuzz thats bad)

l try to like Jay Leno , but even with the connection of other car enthusiasts and his own collection which I appreciate his sharing with us...he nearly always seems less than properly respectful of his guest. Much seems to do with his seeming to need being the top dog. I agree that Bruce Goldsmith was a delightful example of a knowledgeable enthusiast...and person, and Jay Leno was by contrast was rude and dismissive;even displaying a sense of being annoyed/bored at times.

Joe - Yes I also thought Jay was a bit too dismissive of his guest.. I suspect it's an attitude Jay adopts when he finds a car that he secretly wants to own and put an offer on.... but knows it's going to be very challenging to do so, not just because someone already owns it, but the existing owner is far more passionate, knowledgable and much more deserving of it than he is...
@alanjohnson2347
@alanjohnson2347 5 жыл бұрын
Where are yal getting this idea that he is being rude to his guest? He has a show to do. Every show has a time line. He wants to talk not ramble. When he sees someone is going to start rambling. He cuts that short to continue with the show (the time line I mean).

I met Pete Brock and Carroll Shelby at Laguna Seca in 1992. Shelby was awesome signing my car and taking pictures. But Pete Brock was such a down to earth car guy. He came up to my 67 GT 500 introduced himself and we just started talking. Although, I thought I knew a lot about the 67 Shelby's, Pete took my knowledge to a new level. He was such a nice guy taking the time to point several small details that was really cool. The best part was we talked for an hour! The worst part, I got so caught up in talking to him, I didn't even think about getting his autograph and a couple of pics. Oh well, the memory of his being a great guy is awesome!

At 71 years old I long for the 60's when I waited breathlessly for my Road and Track and Car and Driver magazines to read more about guys like Shelby, Brock, Reventlow, Miles, Gurney and all the Grand Prix news. Those days of hands on design and fabrication made legends of those low budget geniuses. If I could have anything in the world, it would be Jay's garage and the chance to meet Jay to have him walk me through for a couple of days. Keep the faith, Jay, I love what you do.

Whenever I hear the name Pete Brock, I immediately think of the Australian race driver, Peter Brock, who was unfortunately killed in a racing accident in 2006. Ironically, I guess, in a Shelby Daytona Coupe. When I first saw the name of this car, I thought it was a tribute to him, of sorts, but no. Just turns out that someone of the same name built it.

As a kid growing up in the 60s, the Shelby Daytona Coupe was perhaps my favorite. Just a gorgeous body shape, almost as swoopy and sexy at the Jaguar XK-E. Yet, unlike the XK-E, this car had an American V-8 under the hood, just a throbbing. growling hunk of foot-lb torque that was rarely matched in Europe back in the day. And Bruce Goldsmith's version here is just a dream. The color is drop-dead gorgeous, and it's updated where it needs to be updated yet it keeps that wonderful, imaginative shaping and engineering that was at the heart of the 1960s. The automotive engineers and street-rod car guys knew little of aerodynamics back then, but they compensated for that by dreaming big, really BIG! Thanks Jay and Bruce!

Jay says Shelby was a character, not all of it good. I often wonder how many people Shelby out right fucked. Shelby went to his grave owing my dad big bucks on aluminum used to make wheels. Dad beat him to the grave, and I wouldn't be surprised if he wasn't waiting at the Pearly Gates for Shelby. If anyone mentioned Shelby this or that, you'd hear the story every time. Dad hated Shelby's guts, I have a feeling if they had run into each other Shelby would have made it to the grave first.

In my younger days, I was an avid reader of the British magazines _"Thoroughbred & Classic Cars"_ and _"Classic & Sports Car "_ . I don't remember which it was, but what caught my eye on the cover, was the original Daytona Coupe. I'd never heard of it until then. In the article they mentioned that back in the 60s, Britain had no speedlimits on the motorways (also unknown to me). Anyway, AC took it out on the M1 at 3 or 4 at night to run it through it's paces thinking it would be safe enough what with everybody asleep. Well, they clocked 190+mph... Day after they were in the papers, and that was apparently the end of unlimited speeds in Britain...

I think what I like about Jay's Garage, is rather than talking about his own collection. He's talking about other peoples cars and respecting them as his own trying to give you a history about the specific vehicle while at the same time delivering the history of the vehicle and talking to the owner rather than over them. What I like is it's an exchange too the owner of the vehicle gets to see Jays collection, while at the same time. Jay can showcase their car. The back drop, his personal collection, is a real thing that you can touch and appreciate at the same time as the piece he's displaying and personally. I think. It would be good for his community if once a week. Month or even a season. They held an event in his area just to hang out with other enthusiast. Just to see who showed up.

Peter Brock was a nine times winner of Bathurst nine hour endurance race. Sadly he died on a motor rally on the outskirts of Perth in 2006 in a car very similar to this .

Different Peter Brock. One an American car designer and one an Aussie race car legend. And yes he was killed in one of these replica cars. That car was pure evil!

I don't understand the people who are harping on this guy's "yacking" on about the car. If you were as passionate as he is about anything you'd want to tell the person closest to you anything and everything about it.

That's the problem with each new generation being born. Hardly any passion about anything. Not say all are that way but mostly. And It's a shame. Once these cars and the people that are passionate about them are gone that'll be all she wrote

I guess I missed this video when it first came out...wow...This is one of the coolest cars Jay has had on his channel. As a kid I remember seeing a few of these here and there (it could have been on TV) and I always had a thing for the way the back end came together. I wouldn't see changing anything except the color...but with everything else so nicely done, I don't even know what color that would be. The good thing is there is not point in me wracking my brain on it since I will never have to make that decision.

@kragseven especially in a day when wants a throwaway car. Something cheap. Without these cars and passionate owners people like me Wouldn't have learned anything in vocational school. I'd rather hear everything he has to say about this car than some babbling fool talk about brand new stuff.
