Hey guys, I just found out that carbon dioxide (CO2) is "organic", because I have read that organic matter contains one or more carbon atoms, and that inorganic matter doesn't. Can you please change it if I'm correct, or correct me instead if I'm wrong?
@AmoebaSisters5 жыл бұрын
So you bring up something that we had learned could be a topic all in itself! Some definitions will say any substance with carbon is organic, whereas others (like our cited sources) *generally* require both carbon and hydrogen meaning some carbon containing substances (such as carbon dioxide) would be inorganic. However, even that definition has exceptions such as carbon tetrachloride which is generally considered organic but has no hydrogen. Long story short, there is a lot of debate about these terms---and it seems most of the definitions have exceptions. One example is just searching for "is carbon dioxide organic or inorganic" which will pull up all kinds of different justifications. We actually have the topic of "organic vs. inorganic substances" on a potential future video topic poll, because we think it'd make a great exploration.
