Amazing video! Also great respect for using your own voice as a study subject!

Hey, thanks Soham Roy. Yes, I figured I'd use my 'questionable' voice to add realism rather than downloading some polished voice. I also left it raw with no real processing, just a bit of reverb, that's it, again, to keep it real ;)

Thumbs up! Where in the vocal chain do i add an auto tune plugin? Do i add it as the first insert? Thank you.
@tecraven2 жыл бұрын
I would put the Auto-Tune plug-in first, otherwise any reverb and other FX will get Auto-Tuned, which could yield some odd effects.

Question: If I want to make a great and obvious TPain Cher effects to an already tuned and very little glissando Vocal Stems, What should I do? Should I "destroy" the stems and make it out of tune and colliding the stem wave form to get rough glissando, and then process it through autotune? Need your advice
@tecraven4 ай бұрын
Don't make the original vocal out of tune just to put it back in tune with Autotune as that won't give you the effect you want, it will just put it in tune. Typically you only really notice the 'Cher/T-Pain' effect with the gliss sections, even a tiny gliss will have the effect you want. If there are absolutely no glissandos, not even short subtle ones, then you could do some automated pitch bends in your DAW, save it to a new audio stem and AutoTune that on maximum AutoTune setting.

@@tecraven I'm lost here.. how to make automated pitch bend in Stem (.WAV) file? turn it into parts and make it become patch on Simpler (I'm using ableton)?

its weird how auto tune Anteres has made it more difficult to obtain that "autotune sound" over the yrs. Back in 2005-2012 I had a recording studio and if you used auto tune you didnt have to adjust anything to get the autotune affect. that was the default. If you wanted it more natural sounding then you'd have to adjust, but barely any adjustments. It was straightforward to add vibrato too. In 2024 I just redownloaded it for first time since 2012 and its odd cause it seems to do everything it can to not let you get the autotune effect. Not only does it not give you the autotune affect but it barely tunes your vocals at all even when setting the response to 0. I'm hoping its a just a new learning curve for me and the app hasnt gone to crap, but its super frustrating and doesnt feel intuitiive at all compared to the previous version I used to work with. Also I used to be able to pay for auto tune once for 70$ with lifetime upgrades and now it charges 20 or 30 per month indefinitely

To be honest this is the only version I've used so I have no point of reference to the older versions. I suspect they have adapted it more for today's musicians so it does different things in different ways but, like you said, the original effect is still in there.

I want to try 'I Gotta Feeling' as soon as possible on my Tascam TA-VP1 with the built-in Antares Auto-Tune now because of this video! Great comparison of the stepped notes vs the glissando. I learned a lot from this.

Why they call it the ''T pain'' effect, when it was called the ''Cher'' effect 1st, right?
@tecraven Жыл бұрын
You are absolutely right, I guess for a new generation :-)

It was popularized by T-pain. It became more broadly used by artists once he took hold of it not to mention his approach to the program was more aggressive hence T-pain effect 😉
@tecraven Жыл бұрын
@@stevecrichlowjr177 Yup. T-Pain like ‘maximum’ effect for sure - by his own admission. It was known as the Cher effect first though way back in the day, be it only on one of her songs I believe, at least aggressively set.

Do you have any suggestions? I am extremely frustrated right now. I used to use auto tune back in 2008-2012 and it was very straight forward. I recently bought the new anteres autotune and I cant get iit to sound anything like the autotune I used to work with, despite it being the same software company.
