I've watched countless brake bleeding videos and this is literally one of, if not the best one so far. It says everything all the others say w/out being long and drawn out, covers (almost) all of the methods, and hits all of the important points for each method. Only thing it missed is how to bleed the master cylinder while it's already mounted onto the vehicle (which is actually what I came here looking for, lol).

It should be using the same metod as the "out off the vehicle metod"🙂

@@josea.melendez9631 The only thing I can figure that is the difference between bleeding the Master Cylinder when in a vice verses being attached to the brake booster, is that you could maybe tilt the Master Cylinder when out of the car to further get the bubbles out. I guess a second reason would be to see bubbles coming out and see when it finally just pumps pure fluid and no bubbles, which I guess would be great for if you are just one person doing it. Still though, scratching my head though why more people don't just bleed it attached to the car and pump it a ton of times.

@@GMoney-B I think the bench bleeding is all about saving you time. I tried it last night and had to settle for doing it on the car instead. I guess it'll take a lot longer but it might be the best option for me.

Can't you just pressure bleed the master while it's connected to the booster? Wouldn't a steady pressure of 15-20 psi force all the air out through all the lines if you just release the bleeder screws in order?

If you don't have the clear tubing, you can push to have fluid shoot out, then just place your fingers over the ports before releasing pressure... Makes a mess on the floor, but it works.
@bFORCe2003
@bFORCe2003 5 жыл бұрын
Yep...messy but is a way to bleed the master cylinder. However you can direct the spurts of brake fluid down into a drain pan if you're skilled enough. Just dont lift your fingers right off, only lift the tips off for a split second then close back up.

I had to bleed my brakes with the ABS attached, You dont need the plastic screws. It would help if you guys sold them seperately, thus not having to spend $50 on a new Master Cyl. Tips for people bleeding there master: When you bench bleed your master, you can use the bleeder screw from your Caliper. Simply unscrew, and put into your Mastery Cylinder. Attach a 3/16 tube to the bleeder screw, and put other ends into Resevoir.

Using clear tubing on the bleeder fittings, this will allow you to see the air bubbles trapped in the master cylinder. Remember, while the M.C. is in the vice and the tubes are submerged in the reservoir with brake fluid, SLOWLY apply full end to end strokes until all bubbles are no longer visible. Importantly: Use Safety Glasses! and have small zip ties, and rags available. YOU DONT WANT THIS STUFF IN YOU EYES !!

If you follow the advice in this video, you will necessarily be forcing air through the ABS hydraulic control unit and divorced proportioning valve and metering valve if your vehicle is so equipped. All you have to do is 'pop' the lines exiting the master cylinder to clear the last of the air from them. Air is not going to travel down hill by itself. It will stay close to the master cylinder.

When performing the gravity method, you mention all of the bleeder screws can be opened at the same time until all the bubbles are gone. That would be to get the old fluid out, and the new fluid in, correct? Then you tighten all four bleeder screws after the new fluid is poured in the master cylinder and comes out the bleeders with no bubbles? After that, THEN you start the bleeding process farthest away from the master cylinder and make your way back to the closest? All the while, monitoring the master cylinder, adding accordingly to keep it full. Thanks for the video. I'm just wanting to make sure I understand this correctly.

You said that as the brake pedal is being pushed to the floor, to close the bleeder valve just before the pedal reaches the floor. But the person at the bleeder valve won't know when this about to happen, and the person sitting in the driver's seat won't know when this is about to happen, so how are we supposed to know when to close the bleeder valve?

Last MSDS I looked at... DOT 5.1 is not silicone base, but glycol [of several variants]. I did find one odd duck where the base was alkyl ester - maybe a real chemist can take us to school on that? 5.1 can go into a system that had 3 or 4 in it before, with a simple flush. More isn't always better however - there are tradeoffs in dealing with more heat, so think before you pour. From what I've read, wet boiling point is spec'd as a system with 3.7% water content absorbed into the fluid. Compare it to the dry boiling point, and the difference [degrees C] reveals one interesting thing you might not expect: the falloff is bigger the higher DOT spec you use. Dry/wet numbers I found are 5.1=260/180, 4 = 230/155, 3 = 205/140. So while 5.1 might handle the most heat... it might also require more maintenance, if you are driving so hard that you actually need it. Fluids also absorb air, which is a temperature dependant variable amount as to how much might gas out when temps go up. Come to think of it... I hate brake fluid as it is today: no wonder big rigs use air brakes - there is air everywhere you go, even in the middle of nowhere and it all behaves the same.

How many of you have bench bled master cylinders only to find they don't fit the car? Fit it on car first and then bench bleed it but for me, I'll fit it on the car and bleed it in place as I have for 43 years. That sequence of bleeding wheels in order really is not necessary either. Especially since the front and rear brakes are a separate system in virtually every American car since 1967. There appears to be a lot of book readers on these brake bleeding videos all over You tube.

But it doesn't how to access these parts, which section of dashboard to remove and the procedure of removing. When I look on my car, I think it needs removal some sections of the dashboard near/under steering column. I have seen a video, on different car, which shows working on brake pedal adjustment. The dashboard section has been removed although it doesn't show how to remove that dashboard section.
