+Steve briggs I live in east France, I fish in a sort of ''mini rainbow '' in the east of France and my 35lbs hooklinks snapped all time. What do you use for hooklinks in this situation ??
@stevebriggs46388 жыл бұрын
+Maxime NASH for really strong situations I use Nash ClingOn 40lb leader for hook lengths and it's never broken but I know Martin Locke has used Kryston Ton-Up leader - as he says it might mean missing out on a few bites but when he hooks one he will land it .... in reality we don't seem to get any less action using the strong gear, we just land more of them :-)
@maximemegel1258 жыл бұрын

Having been out of carp fishing for a long long time,I’ve always carried on reading books on it !! My latest one was “big carp legends” which as inspired me to book a commercial water in France for my birthday next year .. but In chapter ten of your book,you mention a chapter in Terry Hearns book that was some of the finest literature you’ve ever read about that water .. now I’ve got nothing to read now so what was the book !? Please
@stevebriggs4638Ай бұрын
Yes that was in his first book - In Pursuit of the Largest - when he wrote about his time on the Mere called - The Mere the carp that time forgot

That was brilliant Steve i watched it while eatin me dinner :) , that 1st common was stunning. Do you use plain hemp or flavoured?
@stevebriggs46388 жыл бұрын
+Jon Baker thanks Jon glad you liked it :-) Yes it's just plain hemp soaked and boiled with no extra additives.
@truthpig8 жыл бұрын
Enjoyed that, but I`d like to ask what the float is for? My best guess is that it`s for keeping the line high in the water away from snags? Just seems a bit unusual, that`s all.
@stevebriggs46388 жыл бұрын
+truthpig Its unusual for sure but quite normal practice at Rainbow - It keeps the line up away from snags but we also found that the action increased as more line was kept out of the way of the fish - almost like the reverse of pinning the line on the bottom.
@truthpig8 жыл бұрын
Steve briggs Interesting - and thanks for the reply Steve. It`s great that you take the trouble to reply, it makes me feel quite honoured, after all, you`re a bit of a carpin mega star... Tight lines mate.

@stevebriggs46388 жыл бұрын
+Carp Explorer no I don't change the rigs - after all these years I know they work and it would be more confusion ... it was just in the wrong place :-)

As always Steve great to watch. You had me going too thinking you had an absolute monster on there when it was rowing someone's block and lead. What I like most is you talk about your tactics and your thought processes where you adapt to get action. It's not just an "aren't I great I caught this big one then that big one", the angler feels part of the action too and you give great tips for anyone lucky enough to get a chance themselves. Thank god your videos aren't full of that annoying electro sound track so many ruin there's with and I am done with seeing time lapse go pro of the drive down which every Tom, dick and array seem to do these days. The lake, the scenery, the fish, rigs and tactics, maybe a little underwater go pro and a natural sound track are plenty sufficient. Great viewing, thanks for sharing
@stevebriggs46387 жыл бұрын
Thanks James it's always good to hear back from people what they like and don't like - it's the only way to improve what I do - I'm glad you like it overall anyway - and thanks for the feedback :-)

Leave the D&B alone. I think it suits my mind, my fishing style. Each to their own I say.
@bobnudd8 жыл бұрын
Great vid pal , can i please ask a question why do a lot of carp fishermen have there rods up high when fishing ? even though i have been fishing all my life im new to carping and seen a lot of lads do it and i thought it was better to have your line pinned to the lake bed , many thanks and tight lines .
@stevebriggs46388 жыл бұрын
+Stuart Unsworth Hi Stuart there are two reasons really, one is that I want to keep the line as high as possible as I'm fishing over some shallow bars that are a bit snaggy and secondly I'm using a boat for putting out baits and playing fish etc and it makes it much easier to move the boat between the rods and under the lines, it's something I do a lot when fishing abroad as many other people do - hope this helps and glad you liked the vid :-) all the talk about keeping lines pinned to the bottom is more UK carp fashion than actually effective tactics - for me at least ;-)
@bobnudd8 жыл бұрын
Thanks Steve , i have been a match fisherman for nearly 20 years now and my son has started carp fishing and late this year i got my first 20 pounder and i must admit im hooked on carping now , looking forward to watching your vids and roll on summer when it gets warmer lol.

I know you are a very good angler and have vast amount of experience but don't you get worried lifting your lead and bait around on spots? potentially blunting the hook on something good video though mate enjoyed it
@stevebriggs46387 жыл бұрын
No its never a problem. From the boat I'm lifting the rig up and down and not dragging it along the bottom and the most important thing is getting the presentation right. If i feel the hook catch something then I always check it of course, but most times its absolutely fine ...
@UKchipsmagee8 жыл бұрын
What does the floats do other present a vertical..............
@stevebriggs46388 жыл бұрын
+dick winter Hi Dick they keep the line clear of where the fish are swimming mid water and also it helps keep the line up over shallow bars that have snags on them.....
@TheWesterndevon8 жыл бұрын
+Steve briggs So I'm guessing the line comes up vertically from the lead to the float so how is the line lay once it enters the water again back to the rod?
@stevebriggs46388 жыл бұрын
+TheWesterndevon yes the line comes up direct from the lead to the float and then on a tight line goes mostly across the surface back to the rod tip. Over greater distances some lines will sink a little....
