I also love this time of the year, specially because we had a so sooo long summer. Although heavy rain has done a lot of damage last weeks I really enjoy sitting at the sofa enjoying a hot herbal tea and reading a book while listening to french ambience music. We are preparing to stock up in items we are going to need before prices rise due to cristmas season. Like you, I like to use up all the food I have in my pantry and freezer for making soups, creams, stews and casseroles, I adore this comfort food. Wishing you a nice weekend in advance!

Yes we love the autumn walks too, often take a picnic as it's not only in the summer a picnic is nice. Hot chocolate in the car, (and/or soup), watching a gale, then a bracing walk round the Île de Sieck, if the tides are right, then home for hot soup, rolls and light the wood burner to have more hot chocolate and often, dry ourselves out a bit! Cost? A bit of petrol and some grub from the cupboard! I do lots of planning the autumn, and I know I never achieve much, but I'm a massive fan of list making, and my early autumn resolution is "stick to sensible lists and remember to take them with you!! Xx

I live in a snow belt area in northern Michigan. The cost of living is much lower but winters are hard. I’ve tried to keep up with snow removal myself but this year I’ll invest in a small business to help with the snow. I am always trying to keep up my 2 acres before it gets buried in snow. 😆

Absolutely love the Fall. Nothing like the smell of fresh cool air with a cup of coffee ☕️ first thing in the morning. During the fall we deadhead all our roses and hydrangeas, look for any cracks or holes around house and seal to keep mice out. I need to go thrifting for 2 more pair of insulated drapes for winter. Love the video 📹 ❤️.

I would take a broader view of your "pantry" inventory. I looked at my home and realized how much clutter had accumulated over the years. My friend volunteered her beautiful strong twin daughters to help me and we cleared pounds of stuff that was just taking up space and making me nervous. I have the good fortune to live in a county (here in California) where I get a free bulk pick up every 12 months and I scheduled a pick-up in two weeks time. What that means is that I have more time to get more junk out to the street to be picked up, and out of my anxiety. It already feels liberating. Anything useful is being taken to the local charity for re-sale. I think this will be one of the best winters I have ever had here.

The first part of this video made me think of the songtext of Eddie Vedder's Society: When you want more than you have, you think you need. So true! Loving all of your videos!! I'm in a wheelchair and winter is not always rhe best time for me to get out (too cold or too wet). So from end of summer I start stocking up on everything I use a lot of, when it's on sale (by now I know the cycles). Toiletpaper, coffee, vegan sausages, vegan milk, lentills, beans, freezer stuff etc; everything that's on offer, and I use a.i. my brand, I buy lots of. That way I can stay in in winter when I can't go out. And still be independant. To me that's a great big blessing.

Because we know in the winter our heating will be on more we make sure that food is stocked up and we can save some of the grocery money to use towards the heating. We buy a large sack of potatoes because it works out cheaper. I've recently bought a winter padded coat for £5 off of market place and the lady only wore it a couple of times. The same coat was £60 new. Great vlog Jane and Mike. Kind regards Angeline ❤️

Hello Jane, another great video thank you. Busy time of year, I know I will probably be spending more time inside over the next few months, I have brought out my autumn and winter clothing, mending if necessary. I sew, mostly during the next few months, so it the time to go though all my supplies, fabric, notions also existing garments for up-cycling, balance this with a undertaking jobs from my prepared list of things which need to be done in the house during this time of year. Whenever I can I am outside, lucky enough to have an allotment, so preparing for next season is a wonderful way to spend dry days with lots of seed collecting and storing. I love the process and rhythm of this time of year, I enjoy the challenge of trying to do as much as I can with what I already have, it’s a great creative time for me, I love walking, collecting pine cones, leaves ( I make these into leaf roses) which I use in making my own Christmas wreaths. Thank you for another enjoyable video.

You are so right about using our pantry supplies and finding some great fall/winter recipes. I have been meal planning and getting my soup of the week recipes together. ❤️ sent out for our rewards points on our CCs. We never carry a balance of course, but we ordered 4 gift cards to start our Christmas gift list. They will go to 4 of our young nieces and nephews for one of their gifts. If you want the physical cards you need to plan ahead for mail time. Cleaned out the closet this morning to put away the summer clothes and have some donations to give away.

Likewise, Christmas entertaining items like crackers, and pickles, etc. I also start picking up little stocking stuffers now before they're all sold out. I love Autumn, it's my favourite season. My son and I both have Autumn birthdays, his is at the start and mine right at the very end. I enjoy walking in the autumn, it has a different smell and the light can be beautiful, it's good for mental health and is free. I also change my menu plan around as we love soups, casseroles, crumbles, etc and make sure I incorporate lots of garlic, ginger and spices to help boost our immune systems. I think pumpkin will be featuring a lot, I have grown 11 this year! I also spend time looking through seed catalogues and clearing the garden ready for next year. Hats, gloves and scarves are out and will be having a quick wash, I enjoy doing it, it's as part of my autumn/winter ritual.

This was such a timely video. It must be that great minds think alike, or birds of a feather...because we too are experiencing the beauty of fall, and it seems to be in a hurry this year. From the first hint of leaves changing, I have had a fire burning under me to stay focused and wrap things up. I am just about completely done with my garden harvesting and preserving. Just herbs and kaleto go. But at the same time, stocking firewood outside the 2 backdoors, cleaning stove chimney pipes, draining hoses and storing. Then clearing off the back deck of my makeshift outdoor kitchen, for canning, packing it away in sheds until next year. And bringing in the humidifiers from the shed for the dry air during wood heating season. I spent hours last week finding rain coats, hats, scarfs and gloves. Got out the winter boots, and woolen socks, found the down slippers, and pulled out the long johns, and traded the drawer space from swimming suits. This is by far my favorite time of the year. The heat subsides and we too get to visit our community after the tourists have headed back home. We live 15 minutes drive from the gorgeous Lake Michigan shoreline, so we appreciate it's beauty and even more so without the crowds. As we say all summer, about the tourists, please come and spend your money and help support our community and then leave us to our quiet autumn and winter. I have a butternut squash lasagna to make, as well as pumpkin waffles and some butternut squash soups . Love soup, stew season.

Inspiring video, thank you! Here we process the last fruits and vegetables from the garden at the moment, ratatouilles, tomato sauce, applesauce, collect walnuts and hazelnuts, potatoes, make our pesto, we plant our sown salads for the winter in the green house because we're whole food plant based, so everything we produce reduces our bill and it's so much tastier! This is also the time when I like to plan so that everything is easy in winter, I check and replenish food stocks, batteries and candles, have my car serviced, tires, put together the wardrobe. winter and change the menus to adapt to the season like this delicious "soupe au pistou" on the table this evening which you might like too. Love all these preparations even if things sometimes come differently than planned. I wish you a beautiful autumn!

I usually can several jars to store for satisfying winter. meals. This year, my little vegetable garden didn't do well because of constant excess rains.. Spring has arrived in WA so we have the heat to look forward too. Our budget can go off the rails with the air conditioner in the summer. I am careful but it does make a hot night more bearable😮 Electricity is getting very expensive so some caution is recommended. Looking back when we first landed in Oz air conditioning was not often used just a fan to move the air around. We got weak and air conditioned shops persuaded us but it is a bit luxury on a sweaty day or night😊

I've been freezing spare courgettes and tomatoes to add to winter soups and casseroles. Chimneys are swept and logs bought for the winter. I have gone through my winter wardrobe and done any mending/replacements. Garden fruits in the freezer ready for winter puddings. For holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas, and Easter in the spring, I get what I consider to be appropriate decor. Once I have that, I really don't need anything more unless something breaks or wears out. I don't even need to look at what stores or catalogues have to offer each year. I can glance at sales, but if I already have something and it's in good condition, I'm definitely not buying another one. This saves money and takes some of the stress out of the holiday preparations. 🙂

How urgent is the new roof? Depending on answer, I’d recommend all extra payments on the car, and get rid of that debt first, then roof, then mortgage. If roof is more urgent, then roof, then car, then mortgage. I’d pay no extra on the mortgage until the other two are done.

It is a real inspiring time of year. I get excited about decluttering and making a bit of money taking Christmas items and other things to consignment stores. I take pictures to bring in first to see what they’ll accept. Pretty soon I am making a sweep through the whole house. It is invigorating.. I will buy cheap wreaths for .99 or so , take off the fall leaves and other decor to put in our grape vine wreath we made from the woods for the front door.Usually any money made goes into Christmas shopping and food. I also find very vintage Christmas cards for .10 or .25 that seem perfect for a certain person or family. I feel like baking more and i love picking up the acorns and putting them in a big jar for the house. Thanks for the inspiration.

I work at a school, and there is so much virus going around. I visited London a couple of weeks ago, and I picked up C19. I had it before, almost 2 years ago, but this time around was hard. Consider getting vaccination. 😊In my country we don't normally get decorations for fall, as the nature does it for us. I will not buy anything new for Christmas either. Just use what I have, and a lot of it is decor the kids made in school, and old decor from my own childhood. Scandinavian Christmas is simple and minimal, a must have, is a real tree.

Hi Jane and Mike! At this time I tend to go through recipes for the crock pot and easy bake so that I can prepare freezer meals for myself. My friends, who are wonderful cooks themselves, share and swap recipes with me - also turns out to be all in good fun. By the way, your newly fenced and paved areas are beautiful.. Happy trails!
