Another good update of your Tropical Garden both parts 1 and 2 hope you had a great trip in the NT ? I’m one that has had problems with Bananas to flower look forward to the day I can comment on your channel that I finally got Bananas to flower. My largest is almost 2 times a fence height but still no bloody flowers yet ☹️ but one day I’m sure it will be there. I need Abiu and Miracle Fruit and Golden Soursop to survive this Winter 🥶 we will see how that goes ? I’m not doing anything with the paw paw it’s to bloody tall now and I will just see how it goes? I have protected the new small one I planted next to them. Jackfruit is protected as are so many others to much to mention. I need my Acearolla to work it also is protected but is only half the size of your Acearoller.. working weekends now with Traffic outside my other work so won’t get as much time Gardening so that will really test me with looking after what Tropicals I have but I love the challenges that will bring in my Tropical Gardening knowledge to make that work. 👍

Darwin's weather is like a 35C day in Melbourne in summer but remains that way the next day and every other day. After a week of the constant heat, my body was ready for some relief, thankfully Melbourne can't be beaten for that. Well done on protecting most of your trees. I'm almost finished with mine, I covered 6 more today. The garden now looks like a mortuary :)

The next 3 days were gloomy and cold. Today we had a swim in marvelous weather.

You're getting too much. We had the first rainfall today in two and a half weeks.

You can treat the carob as a support tree, for chop and drop purposes, it has been shown in some cases to form symbiosis with soil bacteria that might fix nitrogen.

That's cool. I'm still considering whether to cut it back to two leaders or leave it with three.

as a final layer of protection, try adding a foot of straw mulch at the base of the Abiu square n the outside, to prevent that extra bit of wind form getting in, and create a warm blanket that is also like a sponge for water, keeping the soil drier.

Great idea. I was thinking the same, except the straw could retain too much moisture for longer periods.

@@RealLifeFruitopia I agree you would probably want to move it every few months over to the bananas and put dry straw

I've never had the White Sapote but have planted 3 varities (Lemon Gold, Vista and Kampung) so hopefully first fruits in a couple of years. Only heard good things about them. In terms of rain, Sydney is getting absolutely smashed for last couple of weeks. I've got a truck load of mulch to spread before winter but can't do any work due to continuous rain!

You'll love the white sapotes, it's worth the wait. Bone dry here the last two and a half weeks, first rainfall last night.

Hi George! Watched both videos. Thanks for sharing. Do you get fruit fly problem with the white sapotes and persimmons? Did you remember the name of the grapefruits bugs in your part 1?

Fruit fly has yet to affect my white sapote, black sapote and bananas, but has stung orange, grapefruit, pomelo, jujube and persimmon. The grapefruit tree is affected by gal wasp, which is out of my control as I have too many citrus trees as do my neighbours. Thanks for watching.

Love your huge variety of fruit! But how do you protect them all from the dreaded fruit fly! My poor pineapple guava always gets stung!

Thanks! It hasn't been a good season with fruit fly. I lost a lot of late citrus and chili peppers. I covered the persimmon and jujube to save them, but pineapple guava and white sapote were untouched.

@@RealLifeFruitopia you were very lucky then. I wonder if your cold night temperatures are helping to slow down/kill the fruit fly. I think I read somewhere that temperatures under 10 degrees at night will stop or slow them down. We’ve only just started to get single digits at night but not continuously yet. Fruit fly are my worst pests in my garden because they cause so much damage! Just be vigilant in picking up all your fallen fruit so that they don’t have a chance to breed in them. Then when the weather warms up again the cycle will start sooner and you don’t want that with all your beautiful fruit! Enjoy your smorgasbord of fruit in your ‘Garden of Eden’!
