Thanks, Adrienne. That rhythm that i played two times is a classic bebop thing, triplets in the pickup, then some eighths, then anding on an offbeat with a staccato note. Just classic jazz rhthm. Don't forget to phrase it with a slight laidback feeling. - Andreas

This version in a small jazz combo setting and other key offers another wide range of your maestria .The sound is very good and this guitar has some interesting acoustic "colours" .About your playing I may refer to Wes Montgomery first for that perfect exposition of the "thème" (melodic line of the song ) with subtle touch (trademark of Musicians rather than guitar player !) and secondary and "all the way" for the excellent chorus so well built ; the bluesy spices (double notes ) the punching octaves ....and all of this in the deepest and lay down phrasing .Feeling and science !

The French song, turned to melodic tune played by majstro A. Schultz, his smooth technique & melodic sense bring out the beauty from his amazing DeAngelico guitar. I become hypnotized by the gorgeous deep sound of this guitar. I am curious of the size of strings he uses since he bends them w/ease, & type of amp & its settings that gives him such rich sound. I would buy this version in standard notation & tablature. The world was given truly inspiring gift for us all to enjoy & it is jazz guitarist Andreas Schulz. SL

It's a cool budget archtop. If you want a better top wood, it's always more expensive and makes sense only if you play acoustically most of the time. @@LeftoverVISUALS Yes, I ended up buying it and then return it. The playability was amazing, however the high E string was coming out very weak from the floating pickup. I guess this is also something to do with this type of pick up that cannot be adjusted very easily. I felt like I need much thicker string on the high E and B and it came with .12. Anyway I just returned it and now Eastman is building one for me with solid top and fixed neck humbacker for the same kind of money. I hope it will be great.

I don't care for the tone of many arch top guitars with floating pickups. Yes, they sound more like the unplugged, acoustic sound of the box. But, I guess my ears don't seem to like the acoustic sound of an f-hole acoustic. Yet my ears love the sound of this guitar and your playing. Sounds like the Johnny Smith L-5 Benson played early in his career - which also has a floating pickup. Both guitars have the right balance, to my ears, between the acoustic and electric sound. How would you compare this guitar to a LeGrand or Johnny Smith L-5?

Interesting right hand picking grip / technique. How did you come by it?
@LeftoverVISUALS8 жыл бұрын
+Mark Rhodes Hi Mark, i think you're talking about the angle of the pick towards the strings, right? For me the sound changes quite a lot with this angle. When playing jazz or acoustic lead, it gives me a very full sound with an attack noise that is very low in the frequency range. Completely different than holding the pick parallel to the string. Try it out, it works for me. - Andreas
@MarkRhodesSongs8 жыл бұрын
+LeftoverVISUALS Thanks, Andreas. I agree, it does give a very full sound. I've spent a lot of time learning what is called (by some) "Benson picking," after George Benson, and the grip is similar to what you are doing. In any case, I like the way you play!

Hey, Great tone & right hand technique. I've been experimenting with similar picking method. It works nicely, but tone varies with the type of pick used. May I ask which pick do you use on these videos? Thanks, Tamir

Hi Dave, not better, just different. The Ibanez is a little smaller. - Andreas

What is the theory for improvising like that and playing jazz general?
@LeftoverVISUALS8 жыл бұрын
Hi Samuel, wanna make it short? Listen to the best jazz players for some years, practice for some more years and try to play the best you can in this idiom. Ther's no short way, sorry. Find kind and honest fellow musicians who have a bit more experience and are willing to help you. - A.

Samuel Campos hey man, I’ve got a video on improvising over ‘all of me’, I talk about a few concepts that will help. Leftovervisuals comment is spot on- but any resource you can find will add some value!
