Wynton Learson Marsalis was born five years after the untimely death of Clifford Brown. If Wynton isn't the reincarnation of Clifford, you can bet that he took a few lessons from him as they crossed paths in the spirit world with trumpets in hand. God bless Wynton Marsalis and everything he stands for. I can't get tired of his playing because his phrases are profoundly coherent and lyrical. A lot of players can carry their weight at 300 BPM, but Wynton does it with an unparalleled level of substance, wisdom, sophistication and beauty. Thank God for this ambassador of positivity, creativity, intelligence, passion and sensitivity, who wakes up every day and works to help bring peace to a troubled world through the liberating art of jazz... the music of freedom.

Beautifully said and important words for many today to hear. Only thing I could possibly disagree with is a that I feel a lot of players today can't actually carry their weight at 300 bpm. Many resort to cliche lines and cheap tricks to pass bars. Wynton, as you say, stands out from the pack in the substance he plays at these tempos. However see at 2:40 where he repeats a phrase several times in a row and has to take quick break to think. Even the best aren't perfect but this performance is about as close as I've ever heard

Mason Millard he wasn't taking a break to think, he was either resting his chops, or just using space. If he wanted to, he could rip a string a of eighth notes for the entire solo.

That Wynton Marsalis is one of the best musicians humanity has ever presented to the world so far. Of that, . not many can deny. Even regarding European classic music trumpet playing, he has been cited as a trumpet playing "wunderkind". Not only is he a world recognized master musician, he also is an especially fine person. Now, regarding this jazz session at Ronnie Scotts jazz club, Wynton and his band are on fire.

I remember this version from the his Standards album in the 80s. Just love the way the tempo doubles with each phrase. Thank you for posting this masterpiece!
