Definitely recommend using compost and manure to add nutrients to the soil over potting mix. Potting mix isn’t the most natural ingredients for outdoor soil. Compost and manure have way more benefits for the garden and plant nutrients.

Really nice. I also use seasol, also powerfeed. I'd love to know some Brussels sprout recipes and how you cook them. Going to watch your update videos now.
@JohnDeMartin Жыл бұрын
Thank you! My favourite Brussel sprout recipes would be cooking them in the air fryer. I cut them in half then throw them straight in with a drizzle of garlic olive oil, pepper and salt and they're so tasty and crispy! I usually do about 12 minutes at 180 degrees celsius.
@DarklightTarot Жыл бұрын
@@JohnDeMartin that's awesome! Never thought to put them in the air fryer. Great idea!

They’re fantastic in the air fryer! You’ve gotta try them. If you want them softer you can boil them first for 1 minute before putting them in the air fryer

Hello I am in Australia as well. I plant onions on the shortest day of the year every year. Just after ANZAC day is best to plant. I find it easier to remember when to plant what by associating planting with an event.🤗

Okay thank you Raymond. Apparently on the shortest day of the year you plant onions also in March its time to plant garlic I remember March because its my dads birthday.

Ive just moved to a new growing area and I am waiting 12 months to watch the climate and temps here to see what will grow when. Putting in infrastructure like raised garden beds, chook house etc. while I wait. Also water harvesting methods for rain water. I am near longreach. Moved from Tenterfield. Big change. Its fun a new adventure.

Seeds are a pain to grow ! The Australian garlic is a good idea. Note *Chinese garlic from the shops are fully poisonous grown with pesticides. People, grow your own. Very easy to grow from the 1 bead. :)
@amandawoods8472 жыл бұрын
Here in Aus need to note soil or potting mix source. Qld has less regulations and could have absolutely anything in composition, highly recommend avoiding qld soils & mixes, as can be bulked out including toxic. Brand used in vid is usually reliable, some have Aus standard on pkt, some bags just have ticks ✅ but do not meet any standard.
@JohnDeMartin2 жыл бұрын
That’s a good point to note. I’ve never really thought about that before or even heard about it. In the past I’ve often used broken down chicken manure from my own chickens but I don’t have any at the moment so I resorted to potting mix. I agree it’s important to know what our food is grown in as eventually we will be consuming the contaminants.

Nothing like making Bunnings rich isn't there?? LOL!!
@JohnDeMartin Жыл бұрын
True. I sometimes go to smaller nurseries but Bunnings is usually much cheaper
@christinekennedy20322 жыл бұрын
I bought GMO free seeds because I thought they would be better but I am not sure if Bunnings seeds are GMO free. I decided to look for organic soil but bunnings bags have only a small part organic as for the rest of the mix I was unsure of so I didn't buy any.

If you’re worried you can use more tools like little shovels and wear gloves. I’ve done a lot of gardening so it doesn’t really worry me anymore. I think the more you do it the less you worry about that kind of thing.
