Lovely Harriet! You are so talented. I’m in the thick of the jack-o-lanterns and finally think I’m getting that blending technique you’ve taught us down, yay. I was listening to another artist talk about that softening/blending technique and she said it’s such a difficult thing to describe, but once you get it, you get it and it becomes automatic. Again - another beautiful lesson! I have to smile when you mention the shadows - I seem to be looking at a lot of things lately - mundane objects even, like cars in a parking lot - and searching for the light and the shadows around and on them. I gravitate towards controlled loose. I just seemed to instinctively paint like this rather than looking at what other people were doing

Adding the details put this over the top in terms of exceptional beauty, however, I also loved the piece prior to the detail. If you omitted the detail, would that be considered a more loose watercolor?
