Several people have raised the issue of the benefits of credit cards, namely earning rewards from purchases. Good point. Perhaps, I should have discussed this. In fact, I used airline miles from one of my cards to pay for my sister's flight on the California trip that I discuss in the video. I will say though, that in my experience the cards that offer such rewards tend not to be the ones offered to people with poorer credit scores who, generally speaking, also tend to be poorer people.

In general, I feel that people make wrong assumptions to make themselves feel better. It puts them in the “right” because they themselves don’t own one or own luxury items debt free. So to point fingers or make assumptions as if they are “exposing” you make them feel better about the position they are in. People watch videos on luxury because they desire luxury. If for those who make negative comments truly do not care about luxury items videos such as yours would not be clicked on or get “triggered” by it. Simply, people project and it has nothing to do with you. I have always desired luxury items but I don’t have much of them. I didn’t grow up with money and I saw how hard my dad worked. Even the thought of eating out at McD was a rare treat. I knew if I ever when to buy something nice to have the necessity must be met and have enough excess before I would consider buying something luxurious. When I do purchase luxury items (only able to own a few pieces) I put it on a card to take advantage of miles / cash back benefits. I pay off the balance every month so I own my things out right. I learned at a very young watching adults stress out that credit card debt is dangerous. I only put on the card knowing I can afford it debt free and pay it off when the statement comes. I do enjoy luxury videos such as yours so I can get perspectives of what is out there and what would work best for me. Then I decide on what to save up for that would bring the most value and functional use. Thank you for taking the time to share your luxury items in detail as it is very helpful to me.😊

Jumping back in on the topic of credit rewards just stuck a humbling cord with me. My son 6 years ago at 21 sadly took his life. He suffered with depression. Thats all about that😕 But my best friend who is my cousin saw how distraught I was and arranged and took me away to sunny Key West on her mile rewards !! Her flight was $26 bucks and mine was $32. YES!!! You read that right:) That trip with her I will never forget!! She pays all her bills on credit to this day and pays them off at the end if the month to gain the rewards!! Yes...it takes discipline but anything us obtainable if your mind is set!! Oh we flew round trip from Pa :)D

@@chrisnickle6595 I'm so sorry about your son. How awful. Key West is where my mom took me on my 40th birthday trip. Loved it! That was a year and a half ago and I still daydream about going back. That was so thoughtful of your friend/cousin to do that for you.

I applaud your transparency and 10000% agree with you! Growing up poor can be very oppressive and it's a struggle to pull yourself out of it. Once you have some money, it's easy to want to treat yourself because those little luxuries were never available to you.

A coworker asked me if my Kate Spade handbag is real. When I said yes, she looked at me in a judgemental way & said that brand is so expensive. Another coworker asked people if they buy luxury brand items so she can try to convince them not to spend money on luxury items. Some people need a life. It’s not their business how others spend their money.

I literally cannot imagine asking someone if their bag is real. I did have a coworker say to me once that she looked up the price of my bag and couldn’t believe it was more than her mortgage. Just like unsolicited, out of the blue. And what a strange metric. And I just wanted to say, “It’s more than mine too. What’s your point?” But I think I said something like “Well, I saved money and I spend it on a few nice things rather than a lot of little things.” But really. What a weird thing to say to someone. Then later, she solicited my financial advice, and through helping her with the basics, I discovered that I have saved more for retirement at 32 than she has at 50+. Yet she’s judging me for my financial choices. What???

I use my credit card to charge the amount but then pay it off right away. I do this for a few reasons. 1) Cash back 2) Security (if product doesn’t get shipped/something wrong with order/seller 3) It is easier for me to track my spending if its all done in one method.

Can't you track with your bank debit card?
@MsKathyR100
@MsKathyR100 3 жыл бұрын
Yes you can track using a debit card. However, consumer protections on debit card fraud are different than for credit cards. Liability on credit cards are most often limited to $50 and most issuers waive that. Liability on debit can be unlimited. Amount of liability of course, depends on when you report the fraud. In either case, if you’re vigilant about checking your balances and transactions on a near daily basis, no problem. But if if the fraud is detected on your credit card, the issuer has to fight to get their money back from the various merchants that accepted the transactions. If it’s your bank account, you have to fight your bank. In the meantime you may or may not have access to those funds. And that part bugs me a lot. I work with people who live paycheck to paycheck. And one of my coworkers had her checking account drained after she used her debit card at a gas station. She reported it right away, the bank said they’ll look into it but they didn’t put the money back into her account right away. She didn’t have money for gas or food and payday was a week away. Luckily her daughter came to the rescue. She did eventually get her money back but it was harrowing time for her. Had it been credit card fraud she wouldn’t have had to worry so much. And yeah, the poor have little access to credit and what credit they can get seems to be at predatory rates.

Me too! I do the pre loved mostly , also the no interest monthly installments that a lot of companies are now doing. And recently I bought a coach bag, and got 30% off. On a credit card, that I will completely pay off as soon as I receive the bill. This random hater that made that comment about credit card debt either doesn't HAVE a credit card or just isn't very savvy on how to use it to her advantage.

They don’t care about anyone other than themselves, they don’t have any empathy for others and feel they have a right to say nasty things because they tell themselves they’re “Helping”. You are very articulate and made so many good points there isn’t anything I could add. You have been the first person to explain this very well. It is rigged. I make a lot of money but I still save for my purchases so it does not get out of hand with spending and I still find myself in the same dilemma. By the time you have the money literally the bags are all sold out or the prices increase. Once the bags are sold out now the resale price is crazy. I get it but it's still crazy. People should just do what they can and not be so judgemental. If you have problem then just don't watch.

I love how you are not judgemental, I have watched almost every video you have created (I don't always comment, but I should 🤗). and you have never changed. I would love to buy a LV bag, but going into debt for something like that is terrifying because it won't help me get a job in my field like a college degree and a car will. I'm in student debt, and it's awful. I'm trying to pay off my student debt and the car I needed to get to work first. I'm happy with my thrift store clothing and my one kate spade bag that I saved up for months to get. I grew up middle class to lower middle class, and we lived paycheck to paycheck. We couldn't even dream of going into debt for a $2k handbag for my mom because of bills and rent to pay.

Thank you for sharing ❤️❤️❤️. We were poor growing up, but I didn’t realize it because everyone around me was in the same place. I was lucky enough to go to college, then grad school. I met my husband in school. We graduated with over $200,000 in loans. We were in a program that was so intense we couldn’t have a job, and government student loans weren’t enough so we needed private loans with interest rates of 12%. I never even knew those existed but without them we would not have finished school. Looking back, it was worth it but so difficult to finish school, have no jobs or place to live, and basically owe a mortgage. You don’t know what people are going through by looking at them, so I agree, live and let live.

Thank you so much for sharing your personal past and how it effects your lux handbag purchases. I was also raised in a poor family and have a obsession for handbags and it took awhile to figure out why I felt that way about them. When you come from nothing and have something that you love that doesn’t make sense for most people you do end up getting shamed about it. Which is not fair. I even talked to my therapist about it and was told that it’s normal and that I tie it with happy childhood memories of my grandma. She bought me my first handbag. Sometimes you do need a good purchase to help you get through life and help you to continue going. Again this was a great video, thank you! It’s nice to know I’m not the only one out there with handbags

It's nice to hear your story. I too grew up poor and now have a love of purses. I have only ever purchased 1 brand new and still feel the guilt of that. All the others have been used. I am not well off now but in a better position and struggle with enjoying my purchases because I know I don't "need" another bag. 🙄🙃♥️👛

Hi Autumn, I understand why someone wouldn't like credit cards, but I think that as long as you pay everything in full and on time, credit cards are awesome. Now, I understand that sometimes people can't pay off their purchases on time, but if you can I highly recommend them. My husband and I put everything in our credit cards, and I mean EVERYTHING. The reason we do that is to get the points. Credit card points have paid for a few of our trips (to Vegas and Paris for example). So I'm a big believer in credit cards, as long as you pay everything off on time so that you don't incur on penalty fees. Easier said that done, but I just wanted to give my two cents.
@AutumnBeckman

Good point about the points. I should have mentioned that. In fact, I used airline miles earned from a credit card to pay for my sister's flight on our California wine country trip.

You’re absolutely right on so many things. Great take on this. Credit cards and credit scores really seem like a scam. The fact that each credit bureau generates a different score seems rigged. Also the fact credit checks for a car or mortgage lower that score after taking time to build up good credit is super annoying.

Thankyou so much for the video, I was one of them who did’t understand why people go into debt for “frivolous” things as you say. But now I understand, thankyou, I listen to every single word you say. However the only thing I would like to address is becareful not to fall into addiction. 1 or two luxury things is okay, but nowadays people tend to overrate “self-reward”. Because luxury addiction is real, and you still need to limit your amount of debt and be responsible. But I’ll never assume someone I don’t know for doing that. I would just do that to myself. I’m like you, by the way, have to save up for my luxury bags🖤 love your video!

I 💯 agree. It’s nobody’s business. When people judge me for my luxury things I think to myself “you don’t know me. You don’t know when I was little the poverty I overcame. Owning this expensive bauble is a symbol that I made it out” also once again I love that you said it….it’s nobody’s business.

It took me a while to get a credit card on my own. And I use it for points, perks, etc. BUT i make sure to pay in full every billing cycle. I use it for convenience and not as replacement for funds except for 0% installment options which i’ve used for luxury bags as well. It’s a practice that has worked for me as long as I’m able to pay everything off without accruing interest. Thank you so much for sharing your experience.

I absolutely loved this video! I can so relate since I grew up poor as well, along with my husband. We struggled with debt for various reasons over the years and not all from random spending. I've been working so hard over the past years that recently I've been blessed with being able to pay off a good amount of debt pretty quickly. I treated myself to a luxury handbag and was regretting it. I was thinking this is way too much and we stll have student loans. But I reminded myself how hard I've worked that I deserve to treat myself. Hats down to you for overcoming all of your struggles. 👏 Your story felt like mine. ❤

Super late but as someone from Europe, the more I learn about the credit card system in the USA, hearing the words "...it seems rigged" seems to be very apt. Recently I read a comment from someone who had no credit card and zero debt. I thought that was very admirable until I read a response from someone who did the same but got in trouble later in life because they couldn't get a car or a loan for a house. Even though they were debt free. In my eyes that is madness. What I really admire in you is that you found a way to work in the system while seeing that it's not an ideal system. That takes strength. Thank you for telling your story.
