@HarrisonsGarage
@HarrisonsGarage 2 жыл бұрын
Since it's a hemi, I don't believe you'll have the PDC (fuse) box under the hood so you'd probably have to source a fuse box as well. You'll also want to check the plug behind your piano style controls to ensure you have your 6 signal wires coming from it. As far as part number goes, there's a chart I found at hdram forums here: hdrams.com/forum/index.php?attachments/1621983175046-png.16833/ You'll have to create an account/ sign in but it's free. You should not use household wire under the hood as the insulation is not designed for the heat generated there. You can get automotive grade "TXL" at Amazon also more flexable. Otherwise a great video.
@HarrisonsGarage
@HarrisonsGarage Жыл бұрын
That’s some great info - I didn’t realize it could be had on Amazon that easily. I did realize the wires I was using were stiff and the sheathing want the best and made sure to run it far from any of the main heat sources. Had I known to look for TXL at the time I definitely would have gone that route.
@ddew677
@ddew677 Жыл бұрын
TXL is actually a thin polyethene insulation with low abrasion but high heat rating (125C). Despite this high heat rating, most underhood temperatures can reach beyond 125C especially in turbocharged applications. Always run your wire away from heat sources and check for an abrasion free environment. Most wire rated for 75C or 90C will be appropriate for automotive work as long as it is jacketed.. If there is concerns about heat, upsize the wire awg for your application and de-rate if it is placed next to other current carrying conductors

How did you chase down which wire was connected to each switch? Plugging in the light bar to each of the 6 red leads coming out of the PDC while toggling each switch in the cab to see which one powered up? I guess you could also use a multi-meter and test for 12VDC on each lead while you toggle the switches and ground to the frame.
@HarrisonsGarage
@HarrisonsGarage Жыл бұрын
You're correct. I used a multi meter like you described. Checked each one to see which of the uconnect wires I connected the T Taps to activated which switch prior to reinstalling the 12" screen.
@nicholasdoolin8659
@nicholasdoolin8659 Жыл бұрын
@@HarrisonsGarage Thanks for the quick reply. Did you do this before you connected the white wires from the T taps into the PDC? Did you need to configure/enable the switches in AlfaOBD to do this or were you doing this some other way?
@HarrisonsGarage
@HarrisonsGarage Жыл бұрын
@@nicholasdoolin8659 you'll need to activate the switches using alfa obd then use the multimeter to ping them but this is definitely a bit difficult (using alfa obd with the Uconnect unplugged scares me a bit) . Alternatively, and more easily, you can simply let the order of the switches be random, assemble it all, activate with alfaobd and then ping the fuses 1 at a time. Then just note what fuse is what and you're good to go. The fuses in the fuse box will be in different orders than factory trucks but that doesn't matter.
@nicholasdoolin8659
@nicholasdoolin8659 Жыл бұрын
@@HarrisonsGarage Right, that was what I was wondering. You’d know which Red wire off the PDC went to what aux switch but the fuse order in the PDC would not match the factory diagram. To remedy that, I’m thinking could you just activate the switches before you wire up the control wires into the PDC and probe each of the white wires and insert into the correct spot that way, right?
@HarrisonsGarage
@HarrisonsGarage Жыл бұрын
@@nicholasdoolin8659 you probably can. I just chose not to because the dealing with the uconnect when it was out was a bit cumbersome. I just remade the factory diagram with a new numbering order so I knew which switch was which fuse and keep that new diagram in the glove box
@dadcooksfood9956
@dadcooksfood9956 2 жыл бұрын
I would love to find the factory wiring harness. I know that I could wire it up like you did, I would just prefer to have all the factory connections. So that down to road if I sold the truck it would have all factory wireing. Should someone want to do something the factory wireing diagrams would apply.
@HarrisonsGarage
@HarrisonsGarage 2 жыл бұрын
I suppose it's possible but would be a lot more difficult since the factory harness has another stop to make at the XY125A connector down near the gas pedal. That connector is loaded with other connections and hard to access. Also when I was looking at this I ruled out the factory harness because it was very expensive (Cost more than the entire install).
@dadcooksfood9956
@dadcooksfood9956 2 жыл бұрын
@@HarrisonsGarage thanks for that. Do you know if the wires you tapped into connect to anything else? If not I would like to just cut them and use a butt connector.
@HarrisonsGarage
@HarrisonsGarage 2 жыл бұрын
@@dadcooksfood9956 i can't recall for certain if the wires i trapped are connected to anything. My sense would be no and that they would be connected to the factory harness if the truck came with aux switches. I suppose you could always cut 1 and see if you lose any functionality and use a but connector to reconnect it if you did.
