Fantastic video. I have a question. I have 7 Auxbeam 7" 180w driving lights. Can i put them all in one 30amp circuit?
@AZOverland2017
@AZOverland2017 Жыл бұрын
You wouldn't be able to do that, the amp draw will be too much. Double check the specs on your lights and see if they give the actual amp draw. I believe the 180w would be per pair, which would be about a 15 amp draw per pair. So, 4 lights alone would take up a 30 amp circuit. But please, check these numbers with Auxbeam or the manual that came with the lights.

Make sure you use both the - negative and + positive to each item. if you ground an item to the chassis and just run + wire it will cause issues when engine running. Lights especially will flicker. I had this issue, led light worked fine when using just a switch. but when using the Auxbeam system I had to use both - and + leads to each item.

Quick questions I hope you can answer 😅 any advice appreciated Am I good to hook up below accessories to the following auxbeam switch panel fuses KC pro6 7 light to bar to 20a fuse ? Per KC light bar draws 11.41 amps Pair of Flex era 4 pods to 20a fuse ? Per KC each light draws 6.7amps KC chase bar to 5a fuse ? Per KC it draws 5amps Last but not least 😅 bought 8 5150 gen 2 rock lights which don’t say watts or amps drawn, comparing to other rock light specs 8 pods should be good under one 5a fuse ? 😅
@AZOverland2017
@AZOverland2017 Жыл бұрын
I'll answer this the best I can but I would recommend reaching out to Auxbeam customer service for definitive answers. My understanding is circuits 1-6 are actually capable of handling a 20a circuit, so you can put up to 20a fuses in them. Circuits 7-8 are 30a. That being said, if you power up multiple devices at the same time you need to be sure you are not pulling more than 60a total. The circuit breaker is also rated at 60a. If you are connecting 2 lights to 1 circuit, ex. your Pair of Flex era 4 pods and each light draws 6.7amps for a total of 13.4 amps, you would probably switch out the fuse (1-6) to a 15a. I try to use a fuse either at or slightly above the max draw of an accessory. I try to avoid putting a fuse too high over the max draw as it will not protect the equipment as intended.

@AZOverland2017

My understanding from Auxbeam is that you can swap out the fuses as long as the total draw from all accessories doesn't exceed the rating of that particular Control Box. Please do reach out to them as well to confirm that this still holds true as they may have changed things. Many of these companies continue to update parts.

Sorry, I missed this. You can, but there would be power to the Switch Panel at all times; ignition on or off. Some Switch Panels do that but it's up to you. There would obviously be a continual power draw, albeit minimal

I have done this with ditch lights. I connected the positives together and negatives together using ferrule crimp connections and inserted them into the corresponding Pos and Neg slots in the Switch Panel. You will need to calculate total amp draw for the 4 lights together to make sure you are ok to do this on a single circuit. Amps = watts / volts. If so, you can wire 2 Pos together into a larger gauge wire and do the same for the other pair. Then insert them in the correct amp circuit. The challenge may be if you can fit 2 larger gauge wires in that circuit.

The only wires you need are the + and - (black and red or in some cases black and white). You are cutting out the relay and the switch that comes with the light. You + and - will attach directly to the Control Box. That Control Box has built in relays that replace the relay you cut out. The switch panel that comes with the Auxbeam that you mount in the vehicle control everything.

Well, you can but if you are running both of those high draw accessories at the same time I would not switch on the other circuits. Or, if you are running 1 accessory with a high draw and not the other you should be able to switch on other devices as long as you're not exceeding the draw limit. I would definitely contact Auxbeam to confirm this, they are usually pretty responsive.

Very nicely done! Liked & Subbed! Question (an uncommon one I am finding): Can you switch around fuses to run higher amperage circuits in different positions than it came from the factory? I want to run some higher draw circuits in the lower positions of the box, (like a 23amp compressor where a 5 amp fuse would be). I am unsure if circuit amperage is limited by the module design (and solid state relays) or if it even matters. I have the RB80XL with solid state relays, but also purchased a 6-gang unit for another vehicle. This box has mechanical relays, and although the fuses range from 30-5 amps, the relays are all 30-amp. I am an auto electrical guy (for fun) so I understand wiring, but have no working knowledge of solid state relays. Any help from anyone is appreciated, this seems to be a question not commonly asked, and I'm not smart enough to know how else to figure it out lol. Thanks!
@AZOverland2017
@AZOverland2017 2 ай бұрын
First off, thank you very much for the Sub! Auxbeam has a number of different Switch Panels so I am not familiar with all of them. I believe for your RB80XL, positions 1&2 have 30 a relays and 3-8 have 20 a relays built in. So yes, you can swap fuses but be careful with the amp limitations of 3-8 if indeed what I'm saying is true. Please confirm this with Auxbeam, but I believe this to be the case.

This may seem like a dumb question but I’m fairly new to wiring lights and I have this switch installed on my jeep. Since you used 5amp for single lights, when you wire them together on one circuit would that then be 10amp?
@AZOverland2017
@AZOverland2017 Жыл бұрын
The circuit will remain a 5 Amp circuit. Find out the Amp draw of your light and use a circuit with the next higher amperage rating. In my case, each ditch light draws 2.7 amps so I would multiply that by 2 and come up with a 5.4 Amp draw when both lights are on. Technically, I shouldn't have used the 5 Amp circuit as I misread the specs initially. I will be moving it to a 10 Amp. Does this make sense?

@@itskerbc I believe you will need a ground wire going in to have it function correctly. There is probably a way you can do this but I would contact both companies to confirm. My idea would be to run an actual ground wire from the mount of the Buggy Whips to the Control Box circuit ground. But, once again, please confirm this with the manufacturer of each if you are not confident in this setup.

Does anybody know if this is ground or power side switched? I was going to run all my grounds to a nearby chassis ground, but seeing that the ground goes right back into the control module, that might not be possible. (I haven't put it on the bench to test it yet or I'd already know.)

I believe this unit is power side switched. Definitely bench test to confirm and comment back. I remember installing a Mictuning Switch Panel in the Tacoma and I remember that being ground switched which I thought was odd when I compared it to this install.

Amps=Watts/Volts (4) 18 w lights= 72 watts 72/12 volts= 6 amps If you want to operate all 4 together on 1 button, connect to a 7.5 amp or 10 amp circuit

Ment to say how do you wire both Ditch lights to the 8 Gang Switch Panel with out having to buy a wiring harness

@@anthonyvaldez1052 Every Ditch light kit kit I've seen comes with all the wiring including relay and switch. What I did for both the 4Runner and Tacoma installs is simply cut the relay and switch out and use the existing wires to run directly to the control box of the Switch Panel. No need to buy anything else.

Yea I see that super cheap but what’s dif between the one sided and 2 sided
@AZOverland2017
@AZOverland2017 Жыл бұрын
The 2 sided will have the circuits/fuses on both sides of the Control Box. This is the 1 sided, so all fuses are on the 1 side

@@AZOverland2017 thanks that’s seems pretty self explanatory… but how do they compare? And both come with dif circuit breakers. The one with single I saw a video that it’s better cuz it’s controled with a switch vs a popped fuse for the other one. I ordered both to compare and will be using one for my truck. I don’t plan to submerge with truck but SxS a dif story that’s what it a for so I’m wondering what’s best for my YXZ1000r SxS

@@jesseserna4490 Honestly, I'm not seeing the difference between the 2 other than the layout of the circuits. They connect and operate the same way from everything I read and looked at.

I would be instantly sold on this if the fuse box was waterproof.
