VMA-223 used to be at MCAS Cherry Point, NC as a part of MAG-32. We had 5 squadrons: VMA(T)'s - 203 (trng), 223, 231, 331, and 542. I worked as ground support with the squadrons and repaired and maintained their support gear. The Marines that fly, maintain, and support these planes are excellent, capable people and outstanding Marines. Always an amazing plane - especially when you see them in real combat action, not just "training" or at air shows. Semper-Fi, Marines.

I worked with VMAT-203(Harrier Training Squadron) from 2015-2019. Was an Ordnance man. Loved these aircraft so much and still do!

I love the AV8B. I've seen clips of it doing things that I've never seen an F-35B do. They should keep it around like the A-10, there is no real competition.

The AV8B Harrier II Plus is a beautiful aircraft, I want it to remain operational for many more decades, and never need to be replaced from the useless f35.

No please the harrier is my favourite aircraft but what you're saying is like trying to maintain a terminal stage cancer patient on life support. The aircraft has served its time, it is nowadays extremely fucking outdated like ffs even an A-10 is more modern than it. Please let it go to its righteous place in museums.

Considering just how much technology has advanced since the last harrier airframe was built I really don't see why they couldn't just keep the design, modernise some components, perhaps refurbish the old Pegasus engines or come up with sth new, use composit materials where needed to decrease weight and increase structural integrity, give it the latest avionics and it may result in sth significantly less expensive if done well and a heck of a lot more effective than the 35

I mean no that's not how it works, the AV-8B+ is already pushing the limits of the old harrier to its max, trying to modernize it even more is delusional especially since now a plane exists filling the exact same role and is much more prone to modernization

Obsolete and too small, only thing going for it is the vertical take off and short landings. If they did a subsonice version it would be ok. Oh they did the F35. I love the harrier but its 60 years old now. Sure the americans had some tech, did some modifications but its the same plane from the late 50s et al and British to boot.
