not sure if you already know this or not, but when in AFC mode, you can use the trim hat to change the orientation of the plane, when you start your run you turn AFC off, pitch down and then AFC back on again, you could just hold trim forward for a bit to nose the plane down also.

Ok. I really appreciate this video. It's so clear, it shows me that over the year I've been trying to get Mavs to work, both Laser and IR, there's a problem with the system and it's not me being an idiot. The second I select the TGP, my Mavs deselect. IR or Laser, they reset to standby. As you can imagine, this is a deal breaker in using them. I've been going through guides, videos, reddit, hoggit and the forums but finally! Finally, I know it's not me. As soon as I choose the TGP, the Mavs deselect. I'm not being sarcastic, I'm really, really grateful at the clarity of this video. As you can imagine, this has been inordinately frustrating, as I love the idea of the Harrier and every other weapon type works brilliantly. But the Mavs are borked. Maybe it's a mod screwing it up, I've done the repair thing multiple times, so that's all I can think is left. At least I know now just to not bother, at least until I do a fresh install at some stage in the next couple of years. Seriously, thank you.

Great tutorial! One question. If the convoy are static and go in to anti-ambush drills; I can imagine it would become a bit of a nightmare as the T01, 02 etc will need some quick fingers on the TDC slew?

I think you only need Sensor Select forward it you intend to do anything with the maverick like slewing. Not required with the laser guided missile. Great tutorial. Thank you.

this TOO stuff is pretty handy. I've never used it, considering to start because of your videos. I suppose f-18, a10 and f16 don't have this, right? I know I can get similar effect with mark points, but still...

The others have markpoints which you can use as you stated. The TOO mode in the Harrier is pretty sweet!

What is the advantage of L-Mav? For the procedure, you can also take TV or IR?

Advantage is knowing that you can direct the Maverick where you want and also have buddies lasing for you as well or a JTAC. You can also fire these from further out because you're not limited by the seeker head of the IR Mav's, you're using your TPOD. I have a IR MAV tutorial for the harrier that I created a few days ago that you can use as well.

Hey tricker, having some trouble from the start, I've watched this video numerous times and i cant find where im tripping up. it seems after my LMAVS are warmed up and "RDY", i cant get into my TPOD without LMAVS getting deselected ruining the whole attack. All steps for setting up my master arm, A/G mode, and all other essential parts are setup correctly with the aircraft, it seems to be an issue between selecting the TPOD and having the MAVS armed and warmed up.

The new procedure only allows one or the other. If your tpod is brought up maverick feed is deselected, if your maverick is brought up, then the TPOD is deselected. Supposedly this is just like on the real harrier. Is this what you were referring too?

@@TrickerDCS I am having the same issue, the maverick goes cold when the menu is de-selected. opening the map sends it cold too, it does not remain boxed when following these steps. Bringing up the TPOD resets the mavericks.

​@@alextowers3564 I hate to say it, but 5 minutes ago I just created a mission, air start and did not have the issue. I am curious if it was a bug, or just an issue with the open beta version i was on at the time. Are you pressing SSS down to make the TPOD your SOI, and not just selecting it from the MPCD? I recommend reading the Chuck's Guide, it has a logic tree for the TPOD which helped immensely. chucksguides.com/aircraft/dcs/av-8b/

@@alextowers3564 I found my issue was i mistook the binding SSS AFT for SSS Down, so when trying to select the TPOD I was selecting the DMT, and deactivating the LMAV's. SO the SSS is a 5 position input, 4 directions and a press. Read the Chuck's guide on TPOD logic as well, great insight into its operation.

what do i do if my Maverick's seeker isn't slewing left and right and wont lock onto the target. Am i doing my cold starts wrong? The best I do know is I have to 1st fire the laser then uncage and other things that I've tried doing

I know this comment is a year old, but if anyone else finds it I had it too and wasted almost an hour second guessing my procedures. It occurs when you use the "E" variant of the maverick, which do not allow self designation. Take the "E2/L" variant instead and this problem will go away!

I don't know if it still works like this, if i select LMAV the missile sensor screen takes over the TPOD screen and turns off the laser, there's no way to use the laser and the LMAV at the same time :S. I can't use uncage when pointing a laser because LMAV isn't selected, selecting LMAV turns off the laser, using uncage after selecting LMAV doesn't do anything.

This procedure still works if you use the correct laser maverick version. Make sure you take the agm 65L (e2) for self lasing

@@TrickerDCS Update, i got it to fire once then for some reason it gave up half way to target and my laser turned itself off :P, missile cam showed no missiles in the air like it disappeared, tried 3 more times but whenever i pressed sensor select forward long to catch the laser again it wouldn't do it anymore. You don't need to reply to this i've pretty much given up on mavs :P.

appreciate the video. BUT why are there always changes!? this is the biggest reason i rarely get on DCS despite my love for it, and when i do, I'm usually in the F5 despite owning almost every module. I can't just hop into a server and know the systems are going to work the way i expect them to unless I'm in a select few aircraft. and i never know if it's a bug or do i have to search around for some small change i now have to relearn. drives me insane.

The changes are there because they're more accurately simulating the systems, whereas before they were incorrect.

Hey, @Tricker thanks for the tut's very useful! I had previously used this tutorial and my multi-launches were going without incident. I have recently come back to the Harrier and brushing up on the various techniques. Unfortunately, now I'm having no luck with the multiple LMAVS. A single LMAV still hits dead on but when I try to WP increment, the subsequent LMAVs just slam into the first target one after the other. Can anyone say if it's still working for them? (Latest build - DCS 2.8.4.39259.1 Open Beta). Thanks!

I haven’t tried this technique in a few months but when I get home from my trip I’ll test it out again
