Just used one for the first time last weekend. Lots of lag, glitching, and the board reset itself while idle. Processing was disappearing and the Rio racks stuck on virtual, despite signal still passing. This was also a replacement board from the company’s original one that would not boot. The reverb “HD” sounds terrible. Luckily they kept RevX. Lastly the wing needs to be IP config’d to match your WiFi access point (why not just have a serial / direct proprietary connection??) that would drop out and disable the whole expansion. Serious firmware revisions need to be made before this is worth the price tag.

We bought one but we don’t think it’s a true replacement for the ql and cl. I think if you need it the pm7 rivage is a better route to go. THE GUI IS SLOW!! When you switch banks it takes awhile for it to switch to the new bank. Last I can’t believe they took out holding select to link channels. Going backward with the heart patch isn’t fun

I'd be interested to see Yamaha do a DM5, somewhere in-between the DM3 and DM7, but with different offerings than the TF series.

Thanks as always Michael for your videos. Not very familiar with the Yamaha ecosystem but looks amazing. Quick q - did you find that the touch response of the screens were a little sluggish at all? Ie press an option and wait for that to appear on the screen? It might just be how we observe it through the video but was just genuinely interested if you noticed it at all? I just can’t get the speed of the Avantis screen response out of my head. Thanks

Hey, Nick! Great question. If I’m brutally honest, I do wish the overall screen responsiveness was a bit faster. Hopefully this is something that can be addressed with future firmware updates, which Yamaha is good about.

You said you have your mic groups for lavs and what not which is what I do but then you mentioned a dialog bus with the dyn eq. Are you sending your mic groups mix into another mix? How do you route that because (at least on the QL) you can’t send a mix to another mix.

Great question! On the DM7 you can have a bus routed back to a channel input. I then take that channel then route (which is sourcing the Lav mix) then send it to the dialog mix.

15:01 just wanted to clarify that I think you meant Dante, not Dugan here. But I mean if you have a way of getting 64ch or Dugan on a cl or ql, seriously pls let me know 😂

I played with this board a little at LEaTCon in Hamburg. I found its workflow to be very intuitive, and the processing powerful. The biggest difficulty I have with this board is the $30k price tag! Ah well.

@@HarrisonSD03 a little of both, actually. I think it's a little overpriced... I was hoping more for 20-25k with that kind of console. I also think a Rio 3224, at about $10k, is VERY overpriced, when you consider what I/O costs for all the other big consoles. But mostly, I want a bigger/better board but don't have $30k + I/O to spend.

So, if I would need to multitrack, I’d have to use DVS because the USB interface is only 18x18?

If your channel count exceeds 18 inputs, then yes you'd have to roll with DVS. You'd of course have to buy a license for DVS, but you can get up to 64 channels there and latency is not an issue since it's not for monitoring duties. Even though the USB interface is semi-low channel count, its advantage being able to have inserts at ultra low latency. You could have one machine hosting VSTs, then another doing the multitrack over DVS.

I thought only the DM3 had the dismal USB I/O count. I can’t believe the DM7 costing as much as it does is such a poor audio interface choice for a DAW
