You hit the nail on the head with “linear being used as a pejorative”. Every single game doesn’t need to be a 40-plus hour long open world game. Some of us don’t have the time and just want a linear 8-10 hour game with a good story. And don’t get me started about crafting being shoehorned into every game now.

Back in the day Something Awful had an article on Blue Stinger that describes the intro to the game as follows: "A few zillion years ago, a meteor fell and hit the Earth, killing all the dinosaurs and moderately wounding Dick Clark." Also, Jon St. John (AKA Duke Nukem,) did voice work for the game and he described it as one of the most torturous gigs he ever did. The voice director was Japanese and couldn't speak a lick of English so he couldn't direct the voice actors worth a damn. St. John said he had to do over 1000 takes of just reading the game's title because the director was never satisfied but couldn't/didn't offer any direction on how he wanted the take to sound and instead just said the name. Jon tried to imitate the director but again that didn't work so the take that made it into the game was a splice job of two different takes.

Thanks Jared, for doing all of these RE clones by the way! Not only did you open up my horizons on obscure overlooked games, but some true hidden gems in there in this series! I never thought my PS1 library would expand that much, but thanks to your RE clones videos, I definitely picked up a lot of good looking games that have my interested I cant wait to play! This is going to certainly keep me busy anyways until the PS5 becomes more available someday and I loved going back a few generations to find even more hidden gems. With that being said, I cant wait to hear your thoughts on the Disaster Report games even though they didnt make the cut for RE clones. If anyone has any interest in a RE clone, definitely check those games out!

This is a heck of a finally! One thing though, the scientists would have just called the island some like "ABF-251 Island" Dinosaur Island is at least straight to the point!

I'm sure I'm not the only one that suggested Fear Effect and its sequel, but I'm so thankful you covered them. My favorite KZbin channel by FAR

@@AvalancheReviews well your vids put a smile on mine lol it's rare that someone's weirdly specific taste in games mirrors my own so closely. You're the type of dude one could have a few beers with and wax philosophical about old janky horror games haha

Fun thing: UK version of extermination had an entire different voice over and even outfit design for all marines. Kinda insane.

Jared the RE Clone series is my favorite Avalanche Reviews content, really enjoyed the videos👏🏻, I'll probably re-watch it again later this year! Based from your intro how about a Final Fantasy Clones series next?

Wow! all these "survival horror-esque" games, and not one mention of Lifeline. I'm both impressed and a little saddened by that.
