@@jakob6437 these lyrics that were rapped were written by David Berman and used in his song Darkness and Cold. The Avalanches worked on a few songs with David in the past. David unfortunately hanged himself two years ago, so I think it was sweet of them to include his lyrics on this track

It's from a song called Darkness and Cold by David Cloud Berman, under the name Purple Mountains. He was a genius, and the whole album was basically his suicide note.

Interesting idea. I think I agree. Ive been trying to figure out why I think this group is so unbelievably good. Each song is like a hit of nostalgia from some time, and Im not sure when, but it was small and insignificant really but I can feel and smell it all so clearly. Imo, The Avalanches are one of the most underrated groups around.

@@adriandenton6637 Yeah exactly. I thought OP meant that the music was from the 90's, but the aestetic was very much from the 70's and all over the place really. Like lots of moments in time all blended together through samples to create its own unique feeling of nostalgia, that was listened to in the 90's.
@adriandenton6637
@adriandenton6637 2 жыл бұрын
@@neutra__l8525 The first album is a concept album (only found out recently) based on a romantic travel film on a cruise liner. It's got loads of 70s cocktail bar tunes on it and disco/soul samples. The Avalanches grew up watching and listening to alternative 70s/80s American music and films. And their music is soaked in nostalgia (for their age). The OP may have meant that sampling was big in 90s which it was. Watch 'Soda Jerk' and it makes sense, especially for 'wildflower'.

Personally, I interpret the “red lights” as signs form the person he loves that they were not interested in him. He “ran the red lights” (ignored their refusals), and he got punished by finding out the hard way they weren’t interested.

One detail I love about this MV is that when he is dancing in front of the cars, the lights are indeed red. Not only is this a nod to the song's title but it also grounds the music video in reality. It's possible to walk across the street and dance up on a car that's stopped at a red light; it's obviously impossible or at the very least dangerous to do this when the lights are green. I love this detail because it encourages the viewer to embrace this very sense of freedom and inhibition, without the unrealistic fanfare that is often chosen for spectacle's sake. We can indeed go outside and get flowers and dance around town like the protagonist does in this music video. Incredible song one of my favorites by the Avalanches

I am considerably older (probably waaaaaaty older) than the Avalanches demo group, but this song is about as close to perfect as anything I've heard. Rivers Cuomo and Pink Siifu's vocal layers on top of the music gives the whole project an ethereal, yet accessible, vibe. First heard bits of the song as the outro to an episode of Hulu's Nine Perfect Strangers and scoured the net to find it. Well worth the search. Video is great as well.,

First my son singing samples on "We will always love you", now Rivers Cuomo on the second song? Love Weezer! Can't wait to see this, and what comes next for this album.

@hoârse I think he may be the parent of one of the childrens choir kids that sung on the track.

I have been a fan of them since their first album. I was born on March 18, the same day they premiered this song. It was literally the best birthday present.

Rivers vocal is literally one of the most emotive vocals I have heard in so long. So much with so little! 😲

No denying he is an emotive vocalist... But a lot of people are off-put by the trend of age 50+ vocalists exclusively vocalizing like they're in their 20s. He probably has a lot more in his arsenal than that, but we never hear it.

I’m not quite sure why I’ve resonated with this song so heavily recently. It is a great song, don’t get me wrong, but I’ve watched the music video maybe like 26 times already lol idk I really enjoy the freeness of the dancing tied into the loose narrative that wraps the whole thing up, the audio switch that happens after pink siifu’s spoken word part is so good to hear and watch as a transition to the cops point of view. prob in my top 20 fav music videos ever

Hi The Avalanches 🙏 I wanted to write this comment to put this message on the light: Thank you to all the doctors and nurses who give their time, their energy and their health for us to protect us and to defeat this coronavirus! We artists are not doctors but we try in our own way to be doctors of the heart and mind. For those who are interested, and if you don't know what to do at home, I invite you to listen to my songs. Good luck to all ❤️ Stay safe 🙏

Hey guys, since 01 your tunes have been the soundtrack to my best times and helped me navigate the darkest. Your music has forged friendships and sparks memories. The world is an amazing place but we face so many challenges ahead, it's great that you're both creating these beautiful sounds to unify and inspire us. Peace!
