Thats an old name from the past for me. I bought one of their mastering EQ's, used right after they came out. Put it in the rack, hooked it up, took it out of the rack and its still in storage I think. At one point every small studio in the south had a 737 in the rack for their hiphop/rap clients. I remember them coming in asking if you have one. Now its a Sony c800 and Softtube. Thanks for such a great channel!!!

Your channel brings back memories. I used to be in sales at API back in the early 2000s. I think I have your name written down in one of my books, and we may have even done some business back in the day.

Your name sounds familiar. Early 2000 I was still a dealer.

Avalon is still available at a bunch or retailers. Their repair center is in Southern CA and was great to deal with. I had one of my U5 direct boxes repaired a couple months ago. Piece of cake.

Wynton Morrow , one the coolest guys I have ever met. A true bad ass. I use to hang at his shop in San Clemente Ca. Wicked sense of humor and don't fuck with me attitude and the most Cheshire Cat grin ever. DUDE! where are you?? I think his son is at the helm! BUY IT!

Avalon Designs are based on a fully balanced, discrete circuitry... some of the QUIETEST GEAR EVER!! He wanted to build a console, but that would have been incredibly cost prohibitive. Outboard gear was the smartest way for him to go. It's also the only way that the large scale manufacturers have been able to survive.

Do you recall there ever being a comparison with the Manley VOXBOX when the 737 released? At some point I either heard or read that was the case. I think the VOXBOX was out around that time.
@fantastictalesofproaudio2391Ай бұрын
Both good quality units. I have heard them individually. The 737 was at the right price point at the time. The Voxbox was more money. Both units sold well.

I remember renting a Avalon 737 at the same time I rented a vintage 1272 mic pre pair for I recored I did years ago. I really wanted to love the Avalon, but it was a bad match up. The 1272’s dominated on pretty much everything. The Avalon was barley touched.

The 737 is not the unit I would reach for. Great looking unit but sound wise lacking.

wynn morrow, met him once in Nashville, seemed like a sarcastic kinda guy, from what I can tell he does do one off custom stuff.
