I am a naturopathic herbalist in Australia. Recently I converted our dining room into an Apothecary where I store over 100 herbs, kombucha, kefir, sourdough starter, kvass, glycerites, extracts, sauerkraut, mushrooms, sprouts and other things I am tinkering around with. We pulled most of the plants out of our garden and gave them away then planted over 45 herbs we commonly use to save on money. Much respect to you ❤❤ My favourites are Damiana, Willow Bark, Ashwagandha, Turmeric and Icelandic Moss.

It’s beautiful and rustic and all my favourite things are in there. My friends keep their jars and bottles for me in exchange for Booch (kombucha) or teas and it’s the best thing I have ever created.

After leaving America to my quaint little European village in the sun, I started my garden and built an apothecary in 2023. It continues to grow as I learn about herbs, spices, fruits, oils, etc. that work to prevent and help to heal ailments. Best thing I've ever done and will never rely on pharma or modern doctors and their toxins. Everything I consume is locally sourced, which makes a huge difference to my health and wellness. Thank you for this video, I look forward to taking notes!

I would STRONGLY recommend comfrey. It was previously called bone mend as it heals broken bone. It is so healing in so many ways including healing large wounds without stitches. I wouldn’t be without it. Great for healing after surgery as well. It grows so well it’s hard to kill …..just a piece of root will create a bush🦋I know this from personal experience.

I am proud of you for learning about herbs/plants for their medicinal properties. My people believe, the plants that grow each season are the plants we will need for medicine for that season. Twice I was prescribed manmade medicine and each time I had a serious reaction so I rely on holistic remedies, have a huge herb garden, and dry, freeze, store the herbs to have on hand when I need them. Fortunately I am healthy, but I use all my herbs, and share them, throughout the year.

@gazoakleychef - if you take the yarrow leaves, dry them then blend using a milling blade until it is powder - this acts as a quick clot for bleeding. Similar to “Quik Clot” that we got issued in the military or “Celox” but those two contain animal products so yarrow has a similar effect but from nature instead. Cayenne pepper can also be used for mild bleeds in the same way. Just powder either into wounds. Yarrow stings less. Just be mindful with any form of quick clot powder of wind direction, which is the main reason the military switched from powder to infused bandage versions. You can carry cayenne powder and yarrow powder in one of those pill keyrings for small emergencies.
@suzansh458216 күн бұрын
So you only sprinkle the powder on a bleeding wound?! Of course not a big one, a knife cut let’s say or a paper cut
@RWinterFox14 күн бұрын
@@suzansh4582- yes, larger wounds too. Yarrow aside for a moment, the stuff we used to get issued in the armed forces, Quik Clot, was chitosan based and it could be used for arterial bleeds and it acted REALLY fast. You’d just pour in the powder/granules that were like tear off packets. Surgeons needed only to flush it out during surgery. There were reports of it feeling like and causing burns but that was better than bleeding out. Celox is another brand similar but due to helicopter Medivacs, there were reports of the granules or powder version getting in the eyes of medics or troops, so I was told, so we started being issued bandage instead which had it infused and embedded in the bandage which you basically had/have to push deep into the wound like a gunshot wound which hurts like f**k obviously but again, better than bleeding out. Back to Yarrow Leaved tried then powdered with a milling blade in a nutribullet for example, it ends up looking like Moringa powder, light green. You have to pulse it when milling otherwise it heats and gets mushy so pulse on off to keep it cold and don’t overdoing it. Take your time. Pour on or in bleeds. Just be mindful it’s it sterile so the wound would need medical attention if it’s a deep bleed, or you’ll need to flush it out with sterile saline for example once the bleeding has stopped, or the hospital would depending on the situation. Hope that helps.

I loved this video! I wanted to comment as an herbalist that mullein smoke can indeed be amazing for the lungs in certain acute situations. The smoke of the dried leaves is one of the quickest ways to deliver the calming effects directly to the tissues that need it most. Obviously you don't want to use smoke too often. The leaves smoke beautifully by themselves, too. You just light one end and the ember will travel across the leaf. Breathe it in and feel the benefits. This is great for super dry coughs, for instance. Personally I found the smoke of mullein leaves to be the only thing that gave me relief for a random horrible and dry spasming cough I endured for a few months after I had COVID. I became so grateful for that plant!

Hi Gaz! I highly recommend adding Artemisia annua to your apothecary! Two years ago I had a persistent cough that lasted for weeks that was utterly exhausting (it was so bad that I was coughing blood) until a friend of mine who is a naturopath recommended Artemisia tea a few times a day. In a few days the cough was completely gone. My 79 year-old mother-in-law had c*v*d last year and Artemisia stopped it in its tracks in a few days, it was amazing. I bought Artemisia seeds and I will add to the garden this year.

Sage tea for tooth ache too as its antibacterial and can help. Or a clove on the tooth will dull the pain. When women get pregnant they used to be told to be careful of what herbs they take as some can bring on labour. I remember not taking any just in case. Nettle tea when my daughter had her baby helps to encourage iron to increase. Raspberries leaf during menstruation and after birth to help. You have a great supply of herbs ❤

I know honey is not considered by many as vegan, but it’s good for burns, cuts and is anti-microbial and anti-bacterial. For the mullein leaf, yes it can be taken in other forms, but when smoked it actually heals the lungs and gets rid of excess mucus. Many of the herbs you are speaking of in this video are great and yes, oils and teas and tinctures as well as other methods are great for herbs and storage. For raspberry leaf it has to be red raspberry leaf and it’s good for women in all stages, it’s also used after women have babies in various forms and it helps with the cycle not just the symptoms before or after.

I have been using mullein for a few years now. I have to an overabundance growing all over my garden so I harvest tons of it. I had something similar to covid and it was trying to get into my lungs. I smoked it and it immediately cleared my lungs and broke up the phlegm! I also grind up dried leaves and put it in tea, as well as take the leaves in capsule form and use the homeopathic version and it is amazing as well. Additionally, I harvest the flowers, dry them and put in olive oil with dried turmeric and make an ear oil. It helps clear inflammation and pain in the ears. I make elderberry syrup and put them in small ice cube trays and pop one into my first water of the day and take daily. I am going to try willow bark soon and see how that works instead of synthetic aspirin. I have echinacea tincture as well. I have also been using castor oil and it is amazing stuff. Just wanted to say thank you for another older video and recipe of yours: Your gravy. We make it every year for Christmas and it always turns out absolutely delicious. :)
