Who said he ain’t humanity’s hero? And from what I have heard… he regrouped in hell, and went back for another round.

He is a hero, Humanity NEEDED the resource to continue its existence, and most encounter between Man-Na'Vi have been Na'Vi instigated through hostilities, they are a warrior race, notice how you see few if any elderly in their ranks? and their connection with nature culls their population when "called upon", they cannot innovate, they cannot create, they are animals. I'm not calling for their genocide, but they've been quite hostile(understandable, a new race from beyond the stars lands on your home), but Jake betrayed Humanity for some xeno pussy. And a question I ask to Na'Vi apologizers, if your family was under threat, and you had the power to change their fate, would you? wouldn't you do almost anything for them? Quaritch did what he felt best for Mankind. Btw, I am not trying to sound rude/arrogant here, but, my watchings into more Avatar lore lately alongside talking about them, Humanity is doing what it needs to do.

Quaritch is the hero of Avatar. Badass, tough, a damn fine military commander, and not afraid to get on the front line of combat with his soldiers. Every action Quaritch took in the movie was calculated, and he never killed Na'vi unless he knew he had to/was provoked. The Na'vi attacked on sight, ruthlessly killing humans with no remorse. Only when the Na'vi amassed a force big enough to wipe out the entire RDA operation on Pandora did Quaritch lead an assault on them, when he could have done so much earlier with far fewer human casualties. The fact that humanity could easily have exterminated every single Na'vi without even trying (as displayed in Avatar 2) shows that ultimately, the steps Quaritch and the humans took towards attempting to establish peace with the Na'vi proves that they were morally justified in every action throughout the film. Plus the humans are way cooler, the marines are so badass and I would much rather fight alongside an AMP suit than some goofy dragon lizard.

Quaritch was a good guy in an inappropriate circumstance. His job was to make sure the mining company didn't face security issues. He did everything he could for that. He let the scientists try the diplomatic route first. And he gave them years. Did he ask Jake to be a mole while he was being a Naavi? Yes - that's called espionage 101. You spy not only on enemies, but also your allies. Every one who is not already an enemy, is a potential enemy. Even after Jake turned coat and attacked the bulldozers, did he not offer the scientists another chance? It was only when he saw that Jake's last ditch attempt to make the Naavi had failed, that he gave the green light to destroy the tree. And his pre-emtpive strike on the Naavi mobilization centre? He saw thousands of Naavi converging in the area, and he suspected hostile intent. He clearly saw this as preparation for a retaliatory strike. A preemptive strike was the only way to decisively wipe out the threat once and for all.

Your great insight into the nature of the universe? Even at our basest, when we dressed as you do, dwelt as you do, hunted as you do, lived as you do, we did more than merely survive. We built wonders. We made great journeys. We forged epics. You have not. You speak so proudly of the plugs dangling from your skulls, little realizing that they are but strings and you puppets. What little you have accomplished you attribute to the wisdom of your goddess, who is nothing but the voices of your dead echoing for all eternity. She moors you to the past, serving as a leash that keeps you as little better than apes, sad parodies of civilization that lack that special spark to become something more. We have come to your world in search of resources. Whether your actions drive us back or we take what we want and move on, the outcome is the same. We will depart from your wretched planet, leaving you behind. And in a thousand years, you will not have changed from this contact with another world. You will remain in your trees, hunting your prey, communing with your goddess, until your sun burns out and your world dies. And above your tomb, the stars will belong to us."

Leaving this here so I can come back to it. But it’s a very spot on quote; Eywa is a shackle for the Na’vi. She won’t let them advance, since to advance further they’d need agriculture, and that would involve deforestation to make room for crops and livestock. I wonder if that will be the driving force for why the Fire People of the Ash Lands are to be the primary antagonists in the third instalment; they ditch their shackles in order to progress technologically and societally.

There is a degree of necessary, roughness and aggression, inherent in all military positions, because it is fundamentally the business of violence. Beyond that, the Colonel shows excellent leadership qualities. He is adaptable. He is willing to listen to reason, he is willing to try multiple approaches to solve a problem, he is adaptable, he has keen judgement, he is thrifty with resources, he is courteous, he is professional, he maintains discipline, and he comports all of this with a proper military bearing and supremacy of the mission. Quaritch was and probably still is humanities best hope for survival. I don't think his story ends the way a lot of people think it does. He has a mission, save humanity. He'll kill indiscriminately, burn villages, go on a shock an awe campaign, he fucking DIED. He's gonna do what he has to do to make that happen. However, I think after Way of Water, Quaritch is already beginning to see that the "All stick" approach may not work afterall. At some point, he's gonna have to make a judgment call to save humanity that will likely put himself and the RDA at odds, but ultimately remain an outsider and murderer to the Na'vi.

Just think the main character was a traitor and the “villain” was a hero. He may have made a few wrong moves but negotiating with the na’vi wouldn’t have worked out either, you saw how aggressive they were against their own kind at points, never mind outsiders like humans. There isn’t much people won’t do to protect their loved ones. Since think about it if the roles were reversed and it was on earth, the Na’vi would turn on the humans and try to do the exact same thing.
