The thing is, Zuko switching sides here would have meant nothing because he had nothing to lose. He was at his lowest point. The fact the he switched later, when he had everything he ever wanted and realized how unhappy it made him and how hollow he felt, is why Zuko's story is probably one of the best redemption arcs ever written.

Zuko is fantastic at making you love him and hate him within the span of a few minutes. Hate is strong, but you get the idea. Also, congratulations to Azula for being one of the FEW people in anime who attack during the power-up!

Absolutely loved this episode. Avatar has probably been the only show to write women beautifully since it came out. Katara was amazing this episode, even the villains. I absolutely hate shows that make females constantly the damsel in distress, no matter how skilled they are, they have to get saved some how, its so annoying

exactly. Shows like to either make women a damsel, a one-dimensional love interest, or a “badass” with no feelings. Avatar managed to make such amazing female characters because all of them are a diverse and actually have depth, strength, and emotions. Even a side character like Ty Lee has amazing characterization and a realistic backstory.

It’s so tragic that the Dragon of the West traded his freedom for the sliver of hope that the Avatar would survive after he hedged his bet that his own blood and adopted son would do what was best knowing what they had suffered through together. I was so broken watching this

Probably many did not understand, but Azula practically disrupted the process of rebirth of the avatar forever, as Roku said in series 1 of book 2.

Lol idk what they were expecting out of Zuko uncle try to force Zuko to change while Azula his actual sister gave him a choice to change this was bound to happen the way he was going so it's not so far fetched to say this wasn't an option for him at the current stage..he wasn't going to let his sister get killed by them and he also was his way out of his overbearing uncles forcing him to change.. they talking about their tired of him like he was a puppy they could abuse the reactors but when he makes his own decision it's an issue

I think Azula could have won even without Zuko's help, as long as neither he nor Iroh were actively fighting against her. Of course it helped considerably that Toph wasn't there.

I think you were watching a different fight. Aang and Katara had her cornered before Zuko came and helped her. Additionally she was losing to Katara in 1v1 when Zuko helped her. I still think Azula is the strongest from the four but this fight wasn't there to demonstrate her skills, it was mainly to showcase Zuko's betrayal.
