You are correct. The creators of the show based the sun warriors on the Mayans Aztecs and the Incas. Since they were known to have worshipped the sun which I think it’s pretty cool that they really did their research on this

Also, The redemption arc of zuko was foreshadowed since the start. You realise this when you see that the sunwarrior music is what is used every time zuko uses firebending. This is done only for zuko and no other firebender. Thats why the music and the dragons in the background make you cry every darn time.

I’ve always thought that the dragons in Zuko’s dream represented his two “sides.” (The Avatar & The Firelord). The blue dragon with Azula’s voice was identical to Fire Lord Sozin’s blue dragon. The red dragon in Zuko’s dream had Iroh’s voice, and looked identical to Fang (Roku’s dragon). I think the idea that both a red and blue dragon are firebending masters, is meant to be a statement about how both darkness and light are needed to achieve balance in the world.

I liked how the series subtly hinted that the title "Hotman" was actually way out of date. I kept expected Zuko to yell at Aang something like "We haven't called each other that since my great grandfather's reign," but instead he just says, "Don't call me that." The hint is there just as it was in the episode when Aang went to a Fire Nation school and just stood in the town square calling everyone "Hotman" much to their confusion.

Yes! I've been waiting for this episode! it's one of my favorites. I love that moment when Aang calls Zuko "pretty smart" and we get to see Zuko's awkward smile. He's finally found where he belongs and it's fantastic. I also love how easily Aang starts treating him like a friend.

EPISODE TRIVIA 1. I will expand more from igordoche's comment about dance being forbidden in the Fire Nation. As we both learned from 3 x 2: The Headband, modern firebenders use rage and muscle to unleash their firebending as well as Aang showing us the dance moves of the "Phoenix Flight" and "Camelephant Strut" (this will be important later on). After today's episode that you watched, we learned that firebending comes from a dance. This is why the only people who knew that firebending who came from a dancing dragon are members of the royal family. Examples: a) Azula who did the phoenix flight move when battling against crystal armour Aang during season 2 finale smackdown b) Fire Lord Ozai who tried to killed his son Zuko with lightning by doing the Camelephant Strut where he jumped and moved his arms from side to side to strike at his son on the day of the black sun. c) Uncle Iroh who knew that firebending came from the breath d) Now, our favourite member of Team Avatar...Zuko who learned the dancing dragon. As a result, you can see why Aang learned firebending easily due to his love of dancing and now both of them unlocked the secret of firebending. PERSONAL NOTE: I love your suggestion of Boomer-Aang! I also liked the comment below Olyesians as a word play to Olympia greek mythology. Yes, to this day, I get chills and emotional every time I see Aang and Zuko dancing with the dragons. How cool is it to have that once in a lifetime experience in real life!?!?! Until then, stay flamey-o until next episode!

•This episode is another epic lore drop, especially with the origins of the Bending Arts and early Firebenders. Sadly, a good bit of the origins of bending are arguably retconned by LOK. •And that is why Iroh is called "the Dragon of the West." That and the fire-breathing tea trick. •Yep, Zuko's fever dream, where the dragons had the voices of Iroh and Azula. At most, it's the writing throwing an easter egg (or can you throw an easter egg of a show within said show?) •What Zuko and Aang learned was rage is not the fuel of firebending, as many Fire Nation soldiers are trained.

Yeah it makes a little sad when you see some mistakes and decisions in LOK. The story was deep but there were so many limitations, I think they kinda wasted those cool ideas. It was hype and all but I think LOK is a management mistake. I think it's a wrong decision to try to explain this deep story knowing that there are major limitations

When they are on about calendars or hitting certain points that actually happens In real life. The are many ancient structures tied to the winter or summer solstice or even both. Where the sun hits exact points at sunrise or sunset. I've been to a few and worked around a few.

One thing that just never sat well with me is that the gaang just accepted Zuko into their group, you'd think there'd be alot more hesitation from the gaang when Zuko suggests to go on a trip with just Aang to the fire nation. If Zuko was a spy like they were afraid he could be in the previous episode doesn't that seem like the perfect opportunity for Zuko to capture Aang?

Your comments towards the end on how first impressions of the elements are not always fully accurate were very insightful. Have you heard of the Wheel of Time book series? One of the most terrifying villains in the books was renowned the world over for being the best healer of the age before she turned to the shadow. Even before she did that she took pleasure in purposefully inflicting unnecessary pain on her patients using her superior knowledge of human anatomy and how that world's magic system can interact with it. Just like you've seen with bloodbending, there's potential for some scary shit in even the most seemingly benevolent forces.

If you do decide to get into it, just avoid the Amazon Prime adaptation like the plague. It isn't as bad as The Last Airbender live action movie, but it comes close lol

It's that life-changing moment, like living the first ten years of your life without empathy and finally feeling it after five years of pretending and trying really hard. Or feeling someone massage your back the only time in your life, when you are in your twenties, then having your eyes touched by temporary blindness, and when you can see again, the skies are the bluest you've even seen, everything in nature looks made of precious gem colors. Even the dead, brown leaves are of a golden hue, you can see red where you couldn't before, and in the sunset you see a new color that your brain cannot process, and the night sky is never dark to your eyes. I'm afraid that's the best I can I can do.

While none of the Maya people groups ever predicted that the world would end in 2012 (in reality it was a myth spread by the assumption that the last date on their calendar meant apocalypse, when in reality it just meant that a new calendar cycle would begin), yes that's it. The Sun warriors are based on Mesoamerican cultures like the Maya and Aztec, as well as Andean cultures like the Inca empire who based much of their religion on worship of the Sun, or Inti.

I disagree. He was a war general but he was still a tea loving person. He had the makings of a good person influenced by propaganda which is quite realistic. He became the dragon of the west before his son died. If the one moment of his son's death changed everything about him, the show would not be as realistic as it is with the character arcs.

Iroh was never bad. He was performing as a loyal Fire Nation general. His heart was never into warring, but his duty as a general and also as the Fire Lord's son, meant he had to fight. After the death of his son Iroh was just done. He essentially became a contentious objector. Zuko spent years of his life on the same path of duty above all else to maintain honor. It took Iroh and Zuko a lot of personal losses to understand right over wrong is the true face of honor.
