According to the "Avatar Extras" from this episode, the effects of the cooler cause most firebenders to lose their bending for about a week. Zuko has to be a very powerful firebender in order for the cooler to have no such effects on him, even with his breath of fire technique.

For example, Suki is the leader of the Kyoshi Warriors. •A standalone comic recently came out about Suki's time at the Boiling Rock, I recommend it. •Full Moon Bay, where the Kyoshi Warriors were working as guards for refugee ferries to Ba Sing Se. •It's a small world. •I still like this line of dialogue from a different Warden: "Wake up the captain and search the rig!" "Um, sir ..." "WHAT?" "That was the captain you just threw overboard." "Then wake up an officer I haven't thrown overboard and search the rig!"

Yeah was litterally going to type this but knew someone would have beat me to it XD - Toph's feet are her eyes, would be very hard to shut off and sleep with them on the ground, but seems she can still feel metalic vibrations with her back like with Sparky Sparky Boom man and the tank which Azula and her friends rode in chasing them

Yep, the Boiling Rock episodes are among my top faves of the series! I've always been a sucker for prison stories (the grittier, the better, IMO), so these were right up my alley. Plus, I love the chemistry between Sokka and Zuko here. As far as bringing Katara along goes.... I dunno about that. This particular operation works better with a calmer, more analytical mind, while Katara tends to be a bit too passionate for her own good (as evidenced by the last time she was taken to a Fire Nation prison). I'd argue that maybe Toph could have been a potential choice for this operation, but her earth/metal bending would have given her away too quickly, I think. Nope, it had to be the two boys who had it rough with their love lives....

Toph sleeps with her feet up specifically so she doesn't feel everything random people just walking around camp. If something BIG happens, like we saw in the Chase when Azula was chasing them in that big metal vehicle, that is enough to wake her up regardless. Toph putting her feet up is the equivalent of us shutting out eyes. She can still feel danger, groups and large stuff, but if someone just gets up to go to the bathroom she's not going to jolt away at every foot step. She feels ANTS using her feet, so they're pretty sensitive to vibrations.
