I love it so much!!! Just watched it and even though there are notable changes- I actually LIKE them! They make so much sense in the context of a real war and how real people would react to these situations! In the cartoon being able to portray lightheartedness is easy cz it’s a cartoon and they can be goofy and silly, but here the war carries a larger weight to it, and you can see the impact of that weight on our characters, especially after seeing the start of the war and how horrible the air nomad genocide truly was. The fact Aangs last memory of Gyatso was what brought him down from lashing out with the avatar state is even more impactful than aang calming down cz of Katara, aka a stranger he just met. I understand in the cartoon her being there to support him was the basis for his strong connection with Katara later on (and his crush), but cz of the changes they made here she’s not the first person he met and truly befriended. Both Katara and Sokka looked out for him and that’s clearly important to him and he already cares, but not enough to overcome the pain of losing his people. Gyatsos words about him being a good avatar being what works is GENIUS 😭 (not to mention a punch to the feels) and aligns with Aangs character arc perfectly!

Yeah but they changed aang vs zuko. Destroying zukos ship and making katara learn waterbending too fast.. aang knowing airbenders were dead ruined suspense and aang being carefree

@@TheLeVernisPodcast True, but Aang a bit on and off too carefree. Up until Pakku, the waterbending master. So live action Aang still remaining a positive kid-like attitude even though knowing him being the last airbender makes it more consistant in the long run.

Yes!! Finally someone who gets it! IMO Aang not going into the avatar state on the ship was better cz it made the fact his first transformation was out of grief more special, which made it an even more emotionally packed scene! It emphasises just how desperate he must feel to have gone into that state, powering up from pure pain and loss 😢

When Katara me and Sokka, we’re your family now, it cemented their relationship for me. I knew that Katara and Sokka would be there for him, I even cried a bit at that part. So I really didn’t like that change, especially seeing as we would see Gyatso again in a later episode

It wasn’t a bad episode. Love the look of everything, the details in the costumes, and they are definitely more dark showing what actually happens when that fire hit you. I am excited to see more. I’m waiting on my girl Azula. Zuko actor is killing it !

@@Syntell Yes I agree. Not that I thought the others were bad but the actor playing Zuko is just doing great for me. His character is just like Zuko in the animation. I appreciate that. But the likeness to the animation characters are really great so far.

The cinematography in this show is truly spectacular. Director Michael Goi has done a fantastic job with painting beautifully filmic pictures. I think he might be a bit weak in directing the acting. He gets the dramatic moments well enough, but he doesn't quite get the timing required for comedy. Ian Ousley is hitting the right marks as Sokka. He gets Sokka as a warrior and as the comic relief in this series, but Goi doesn't always give Ousley enough time to deliver a comic moment. The storytelling in general also feels a bit rushed. I appreciate the efficiency of a faster pace in the story, but they also lose a few key moments. How did Aang get out of the brig in on Zuko's ship when he was escaping? I needed that moment.

Thank you for reacting. When it got released I read a lot of people who disliked because of the acting and the changes which made me nervous to watch it but then I thought that I should give it a try and not listen to people which I am happy that I watched it as it own version I enjoyed it a lot then I rewatched it to focus on the changes which there are 2 things I didn’t like then the other changes were fine for me I really hope we get season 2 the acting was good and Zuko again made me love his character, but I want season 2 to see more development and growth for all characters.

The only issue I have with the new show so far is the telling instead of showing. The monologues were a bit forced and cringe, and I fear it takes away from the emotional impact the audience is supposed to feel. Like Aang saying "This is who I am. I like playing airball and eating banana cakes and goofing around with my friends". I need to see that, not being told. Its dumbing things down for the audience which is ironic since they're trying to be more mature and violent.. I dunno... the characters feel off.

21:43 I agree with this take. Unfortunately I tend to be less patient with child actors because, though you can tell they are trying hard, it’s not quite there. Sometimes they are trying too hard to act. Once in a while one will blow you away with their skill, but it’s rare. For this show, so far, it’s not a big deterrent. Just noticeable. This episode was good overall. Visuals were cool. Does a good job of setting the stage. Enjoyed your reaction to it.

I'm honestly enjoying this show even though it's not as good as the animated version. My main nitpick is how fast the pacing is since the story has to be crammed into 8 episodes, but it has a lot of moments where it really shines, like during the action sequences. The bending looks so much better in this than it did in the movie. I also think the actor for Aang does a great job when he has to act like an innocent kid. Sometimes his more serious moments are a bit shaky but his excited moments he manages to nail very well. I can tell he's got talent that will only improve with more time and work

just saw the first episode. LIked it, didnt love it, but def liked it. few things the acting was off and on, but just like the Wu Tang series, I feel the actors will grow into their roles so no gripes there sometimes the acting is REALLY SPOT ON, especially Sokka.. I dont like that they are ommiting Roku and emphasizing Kyoshi. I have nothing against or prefer either avatar, but Roku WAS the LAST avatar IMMEDIATLY before Aang so emphasizing on Kyoshi makes ZERO sense (unless its a move to garner female audiences, but I dont think that is neccesary with this show, as there are PLENTY of powerful female characters Katara/Toph/Azula) why did Katara stop zuko's fireball instead of Aang.. and im disappointed in how easily Aang esaped the ship.. but overall it was GREAT.. im excited for episode 2

They original creators left to form Avatar Studios not because of any bad blood. One of the creators was actually at the world premiere for the Netflix series so they get along fine. One important thing to keep in mind as well is that the original creators were involved in that god awful movie as well so they really don’t mind if someone makes creative interpretations of their work

My brother told me to keep the “movie” in mind and not the cartoon because I’m not really feeling some of the changes (he also pointed out the actor that plays Admiral Zhao is the actor from Rush Hour 1😂) I’m on episode 6 and it’s been way better then the movie but I still just don’t like it 🤷🏾‍♀️, I’m general. There’s a few things I did like. The bending looks great, the conversation Aang had with Appa before he left, Gran Gran telling the story.

I also attribute this to the 8 episode restriction. Why is this the standard now. 6-8 hours isn’t enough for some stories to be told. That being said I am about to start episode three and I enjoyed the first two episodes. I thought it was so cool to see the fall of the air temple and see the war in a different light. Also adding Sozen was brilliant imo . He is weirdly the ever present but silent character manifested as a comet. His actions spark and in multiple ways heavily influence the the characters and entire show but has only one real episode dedicated to him. Nice touch. Ngl the multiverse has changed how I view adaptations now of days. I try not to judge it if it takes creative liberties rather than a beat for beat remake. Just don’t be egregious about it like the new Monster Hunter movie or DBZ:E.

I find it tht although there are noticeable changes in pacing nd story. Some of these actually fit better in my opinion to the cartoon. SPOILER for anyone really. 1. How Aang got out of the avatar state bc of his last memory with Gyatso. It makes more sense than Katara bc at the moment he really didn't know her. 2. Bumi, I like how instead of the cartoon version of him this one looked more broken I believe. Having been through the war since the beginning and all. Apart from those the pacing is my main problem, mainly bc I've seen the cartoon, therefore already know the events missed nd such. Although it was enjoyable at least. But yea mainly pacing nd the change in the structure of events. It is inevitable jus doesn't go well.

I don't think I'm being biased by the animated show since I haven't seen it in such a long time, but I really think that the acting is really stiff here. Everything else is great, but that's my one criticism. I've only seen the first episode so far though, so maybe I'm saying this a bit too early, but still. I get that they're young actors, so I can forgive it, but I really hope they get better as we see more of the show.

I wanted to like this episode more than I did. The stilted acting and dialogue was a bit too much for me. It reminded me of how the live action cowboy bebop didn't translate well to live action because they didn't know how to translate the goifuness of anime to the live action medium. One Piece seemed like a rare exception to the rule. They struck a much better balance of being fabtastical without feeling out of place in a live action context. I'm not sure if I want to continue with the show... Does it get better in future episodes?

They managed to f it up! It started ok... But "The Message" pandering is already showing! Katara saves the day on the first episode by building a massive wall of water! When she can barely make a ball of water?!?! Of course while the male lead hangs off like an idiot when he can actually fly!! And also in he original displayed a massive amount of power Wtf!!!!
