There were several earthbenders in that village, they show several bending to create the trench . The earth kingdom is made up several states/villages/towns, all varying in size.

Aang beat the crap out of the archers? They are probably one of the best group in ATLA, especially as non benders. That's the main reason why we never saw them after, the show would be way shorter with them tracking the Gaang.

Unfortunately, Zutara vs Kataang is one of the most toxic parts of the fandom. Hopefully that doesn't detter you in anyway from continuing, enjoying, and sharing your thoughts on this fantastic cartoon. I, personally, am team Zutara, but I also love Aang's character and don't begrudge anyone for being team Kataang.
