For me Neytiri never planned to kill Spider. She played along with Quaritch because she knew that as a father, no matter the excuse; he wouldn’t let his child die. She is a skilled warrior, the first time she cuts Spider was to ensure the reaction she waited from Quaritch who started to hesitate after seing Neytiri take action. She wouldn’t have killed Spider, because Jake, Kiri, Lo’ak and Tuk are found of him and if Spider died : the Sully siblings would have lost two brothers in less than an hour.

She was definitely going to kill spider. She never cared for his presence due to her hatred for the sky people. And the fact that Quaritch played a part in her sons death as well as her fathers, she would have killed spider with no hesitation had he not let Kiri go.

She didn’t kill him simply because of the fact that he was cared for by the rest of her family and because Kiri loved him so much. She knew she would be inflicting the same pain on her children.

Did anyone notice the guilt in Neytiri's eyes after the first cut? And the way she shrieked because she didn't want to do it but she was at her wits end, so that's why she turned to stab her own son(truthfully Spider is her son, she raised him). Because she knew Miles would give anything for his son, and also if you look at the moment she's about to stab Spider, her face and lips quiver, like she's upset and sorry she even put him in that situation

Also, Quarith releases Kiri towards Neytiri. Neytiri, however, releases Spider behind herself (likely as a way to protect him). Not many people I talked to noticed this and I think it also proves this point.

I hope this gets resolved in the sequel these two are kind of set up to have conflicts and resolution. I do look forward to see how this adoptive relationship will progress now Jake being the more open minded one of the couple has accepted Spider as a son.

I got to be frank. I don't see that at all. I see only annoyance and animosity at most. Obviously towards Quaritch but I think she is rather indifferent to whether spider lived or died. Which is why she tossed him aside so aggressively and the fact she even cut him in the first place. Which i guess you can say is to validate the threat. But again she literally hates humanity or has general animosity towards them.

1st Quaritch takes Spider hostage, then he brings him along w/ his inhumane raids. He threatens the only people Spider ever cared about. Finally, he denies that Spider means anything 2 him, as if he was telling Neytiri 2 go ahead & kill him. No wonder Spider decides 2 turn his back on Quaritch & go back 2 the Sullys.

Neytiri has no idea what she almost did. She was going to unintentionally give away the pain she felt when she lost Sylwanin to her daughters. If she killed Spider in front of them, it would not only hurt Quaritch, it would also break their children's hearts for losing their two biological and adopted older brothers. And that wouldn't make her better than those who took her loved ones from her, it would be worse than them.

You really think an indigenous woman, who had already lost her sister and father to invaders, lost her home MORE than once to them, forced to live among strangers, and who had just lost her son, threatening someone who she saw as one of her oppressors, is equivalent to one of the invaders threatening the life of her own daughter? Not only that, you see her as somehow WORSE? No wonder the Na'vi hate the Sky People.

It’s really tough, because on one hand, Neytiri was trying to save her adopted daughter. But on the other hand, she was willing to kill someone who was ON HER SIDE to do it. It made her racist towards humans, too, expecting Spider to betray them. War really brings out the worst in people.

Quaritch did not know that Kiri was the adopted daughter of Jake and Neytiri, if he had known he would have killed Kiri and Spider would end up being killed in turn by Neytiri.

I don't think so... if he knew that it was not their daughter it would incetivise him more to surrender. Because he holds worse "cards". Neytiri is strongly emotional seeking revenge and is holding his son (even though he doesn't want to admit it). Quaritch is holding adopted daughter. Quaritch has much bigger stakes in this gamble.

All I noticed from that after a rewatch, Quaritch push Kiri towards them, while Neytiri didn’t return Spider to him, true she wasn’t fond him because he reminds her of what the Terrans done, but that gesture, though looked brutal of being thrown backwards, at least show she wouldn’t let Spider be taken back by his ‘father’

This is one of the few stalemates where the outcome makes perfect sense. Quaritch is risking much more than Neytiri. He is risking his son meanwhile Neytiri is risking a "step" daughter. Also she is strongly driven by emotions so Quaritch is in disadvantage because he can't calculate what her next move will be. From the moment this stalemate begun it was decided what will be the outcome. But it was still very tense to watch.

The part where Quaritch was holding Kiri hostage, that made realise that Quaritch is a psychopath. If you don’t know what a psychopath is, it’s a mentally unstable person that has a lack of empathy, a lack of conscious and lack of remorse. A psychopath can always enjoy violence and have feelings towards others but only care themselves, like when Quaritch said Spider is not his son, that explains Quaritch doesn’t care about his son, all he cares about is himself. A psychopath can also be manipulative because Quaritch is very manipulative like how he manipulated Jake in Avatar 1, how he manipulated Spider and how’s he gonna manipulate the Ash People in Avatar: Fire and Ash. I learned all that psychopath stuff from the GTA 4 Dimitri video from The Professional. Both Quaritch and Dimitri are both evil and ruthless villains. I think both Shredder and Megatron are also evil and ruthless villains.
