True. And the Banat Mazin Ghawazi can also be seen at Aisha Ali's Dances of Egypt and a few short clips on KZbin.

The song is "el Samer", then it goes into another song (forgot the name. sorry!), then into "Hizzi Anawayem" & back to "el Samer". The dancers are good, great tage presence & lovely, the dance is good/ fun, but sorta happy Sharki, not Ghawazi. Sorry. For real Banat Maazin (since they are wearing an imitation of the Maazin costume), see my #6 DVD.

I thought the song was Saba Samir? That's what Salaam calls it, I've been dancing to it for years with them. It's on their first CD, Raqset Salaam.

Yes, but the performances on my #6 are far longer/ more sustained. ALL 3 (Aisha's, KZbin & mine) are good stuff!!!

I am sorry, I do not know the name of the piece. I do know it is Egyptian. It is quite beautiful, isn't it.

Oops, sweet, and although the costumes seem close enough, the oriental music and movements they are using for what they call Ghawazi dance are simply wrong. (Definitely in the raqs al sharqi category.) Strange, because even during the 60's when Ixchel studied with me, and before I first traveled to Egypt, I played field recordings for my students from the UCLA archives, that were from Upper Egypt, recorded by Koizumi, Hickman and Tiberiu.

Aisha Ali it is hard to know how it was originally done from this performance because it is so stiff, stilted and really not.....natural nor beautiful.
