You’re on a roll!👏👏👏

Are you just leaving the screws bare on the inside? I guess they will be covered up later somehow, but that would be a nice glimpse into the future.
@AVCRIG2 жыл бұрын
I do just leave the screws exposed inside. In the past I’ve screwed into blocks in the van, used bolts, and used the stuff from DIY van. In the end they all end up the same. I’ve never had an issue with leaking from any install method. We are continuing the series and will finish the ceiling. We’re just trying to get the videos up as fast as possible since spring is coming and we know it’s a busy building time of year.

what size max fan was this 350mm or 400mm?

Gr8 video. Question for ya: We are putting our fan in an area that has Kilmat on the ceiling. Is there an easy way to take Kilmat of the metal ceiling? Thanks much.

You can soften the butyl with heat and use a plastic scraper. Be sure to wear gloves the foil backing can be SHARP! Honestly you probably don’t even need to remove the kill mat. It’ll be hard to cut depending on your selected tool, but shouldn’t interfere with weather seal or fit.

Awesome video! I assume putting in the rooftop AC would be the same as well?
@AVCRIG2 жыл бұрын
Rooftop Ac is a little different. The seal on an AC typically relies on compression and not a chemical seal. What AC are you installing?
@craigj62772 жыл бұрын
Do you add extra support (bracing) for the fan or AC? So the AC or fan isn’t just supported by sheet metal? I enjoy your videos.
@AVCRIG2 жыл бұрын
I don’t add bracing for the fans since they are so light. Bracing has come up recently in the last year or two but it’s never been a problem. It certainly can’t hurt. AC units at a different story entirely. They absolutely need bracing. We add riv nuts to the ceiling ribs and bolt another run of unistrut hidden by the ceiling. Most AC units seal by compression so it helps solidify the ceiling and support the weight of the AC unit. Between the unistrut and the metal if the roof we block with a solid material (plywood, pvc foam board called sintra, or whatever else you can source. Just keep it light. Then we bolt through the unistrut into the AC unit. Hope that helps!!

Can I do this with the screws included with the fan, or do I need to use self tapping screws? If so, what screws do you recommend?
@AVCRIG2 жыл бұрын
The screws that come with the fan are fine. I recommend drilling a pilot hole to make them bite easier.

Link to the self-etching primer please?

We use two different options around the shop. Either would work for this application. Eastwood High Build Self Etching Primer Gray Quart for Bare Metal True Acid-Etching Formula a.co/d/j0bjQLn CRL One Step Primer for CRL/Somaca Series Urethanes a.co/d/cltUMtH
