AVCA Video Tip of the Week: Training ‘The Wipe’

Cary Wendell Wallin, a coach at 949 Athletics in San Juan Capistrano, California, and a former AVCA Player of the Year at Stanford, offers a tutorial here on the wipe, which is a great way for outside hitters to tool the block for kills.
Wallin emphasizes that it’s best to use only a partial approach (just the close step) when practicing the wipe because it reduces the risk of injury. She also talks about the differences between wiping across your body (for right-handers at the left pin) and outside of your body (for right-handers at the right pin).

Nope, that was a tip/feint where the ball goes OVER the block and falls as the blockers fall. This is a wipe, and is primarily what the small giant and that guy from wakunan did a lot. It involves have the ball being pushed or hit into the block in a way that it then goes out and the point goes to attacking side.

The blocker's hands are angled to the sidelines so its not very realistic.
