I have experienced that a very common mistake is that the hitter does not have his/her left foot in front and the right foot behind to be able to turn their hip from back to front to strengthen their hit...good videos btw, maybe more slow motion would be helpful in some scenes too.
@JumpVolleyball9 жыл бұрын
+biggestkkfan Thanks so much for your comment and more slow motions are definitely we can add because like you said it will help people to see the detail we want to emphasize
@TheAmanor1237 жыл бұрын
wut wut????? how do you even jump if your left foot is not in front( if you're not a lefty i mean) Like you legit can feel it's wrong when you jump that way. I think the most common mistake is the lack of practice thats it... The timing is really hard to learn for some other than that jumping with all your might left foot in front with your arm with the right motion should do the trick
@DatNguyen-ph2zr6 жыл бұрын
WTFGAFS do you know why it is hard to hit with their hand extended all the way and have goofy foot work? Because they have terrible coaches and trust me. There are a tons of those coaches out there....and now when you try to fix it. Its not easy.

I think he means they jump with both feet at the same position mostly, it is a common mistake beginners do.

good stuff! pitching is exactly like an aggressive attack mechanic...the body, core, and torque are the engines; the arm and wrist are simply the steering wheel. love the angles to elevate highest contact point rather than just remaining square and flat with shoulders. cheers!

I asked a collegiate coach a few years ago about swinging like this & he said it was wrong. He said the shoulders should be equal height & the non hitting shoulder should not dip lower than the hitting should. But clearly swinging this way allows for an even higher contact point, as well as involving the pectoral muscles to create additional power. As a volleyball coach myself, I teach your method all the time & the players continue to have amazing results.

This is seven years old....about how long I have been arguing with coaches to follow-thru "across the chest"... At our daughters H.S. I did an unscientific non-professional side by side hitting study, using the Boys baseball Speed gun... what ensued; When the girls followed thru across the chest...the ball was faster, and they said it felt like they were hitting the ball harder. One of the Girls (our daughter /DS /OH | 5'6" (yes; 5'6" OH (her vert. is amazing) follows through across the chest.. this also helps with quik line hits and doesn't hinder her ability to "go" short, to the 3M line. I implore you to break your young hitters habit of pulling the arm down her side. She is losing power and will have Scapula strain and shoulder issues... it is argued the Tennis server is the nearest to the VB attack swing... I think its a toss up from throwing a ball and Tennis. both, tennis and Base(soft)Ball finish across the chest...

Since you asked for suggestions in the video, I'd like to make one. I never played competitive volleyball growing up; no school, no club, pretty much nothing but backyard stuff during BBQ's and the like. I have been playing in coed leagues for the last few years and have a mean vertical according to my teammates. My mechanics have all been learned while playing. I really would love to know what drills or lone workouts somebody like me should begin doing to improve. What would you teach someone who needs to unlearn incorrect form?
@JumpVolleyball9 жыл бұрын
+Fisticuffs Thanks for the suggestion. Breaking bad habits is very hard. When you play, you are focused on reading the play, reading the trajectory of the ball, getting your body behind the ball, preparing your arms to contact the ball...there is not a lot of room for thinking about you technique. When I was young, I fixed my hitting approach by doing it all the time and everywhere. I would do it walking to school, in my house (reaching for the ceiling with my elbow), as soon as I walked into the gym. I think that's the way to go. Think about what the ideal approach and jumping technique is and then simplify it into 3 cues that are super easy to remember. Then do as many approaches as you can while repeating those 3 cues in your head. You will be slow at first but the more you go, the faster you do your approach. You don't always have to jump 100% but the approach speed should be as fast as the space allows. Repeat, repeat, repeat...there is no secret...just repeat the right stuff though ;-)

Does this hitting motion also apply to a power serve or possibly a float serve. thx
@JumpVolleyball8 жыл бұрын
+cityboyis2 Absolutely, it applies every time you hit, spike, serve a ball.
@Higgs8296 жыл бұрын
On a float serve you actually want to contact the ball a little lower, but further out in front of you. Curl your fingers back so you contact it with as flat a palm as possible. Toss with two hands, no spin, about 1-2' above the height of your head and pick a spot on the ball you want to contact. For instance, you can use the nozzle where you'd insert a needle. Lastly, don't follow through with a wrist snap or it won't float properly, you have to kind of pop it and stop the follow through on contact. Done properly, the float serve can dance all of over place and even fall out of the air.

Too bad, too late for me. I could have used this 3 weeks ago when I had to help out as an outside hitter. As a middle blocker on my level I rarely hit hard. But training and playing as an outside hitter with the wrong technique hurt my shoulder in no time. I've actually learned it the "wrong" way, similar to what Andor Gyulai shows in this video kzbin.info/www/bejne/bnXQlJ-tgbObldU (following through on the same side of the attacking arm) If I should recover from my injury, I shall become the greatest hitter with this tip! Else I'll require more libero training tips :D Thanks LP!

@JumpVolleyball9 жыл бұрын
+Melissa Hill That is a good question and a tough one to answer in writing. I think what I will do is make a video on a couple of exercises people can do because I got it a lot. I'll get on it soon enough. For now, what I suggest is to take an elastic band and tie it to a post at your shoulder level. Grab the elastic band with your hitting hand and face away from where it is attached. Get into your armed position with your hitting arm higher and behind you. If it is your right hand, your right shoulder should be tipped down a bit (you do that by squeezing your abs on your right side) and behind you. Initiate your hitting motion by rotating your shoulders and squeezing your abs on your left side, this should tip your left shoulder down so that at the point of contact, when your hand is above and in front of your head, your left shoulder is below the right one. That's the position you want. Repeat the motion slowly with an elastic band until your core muscle get used to the type of abdominal contraction that is required to produce that movement. I hope that helps. Again, it's hard to explain by writing but I'll do my best to put out a how-to video on some exercises to do. Thanks for your question and good luck with your volleyball.

Hey, First off your videos have helped me a lot to improve my technics this last couple of years, since there was no one really good enough to show me and my teammates how to do things properly, so thank you very much :) Secondly are there any tips to help me avoid high blocks except feints or my obvious blockouts? Because i am a wing spiker but am only 178cm tall so kinda hard to get over blocks, so i either speed up the tempo or block out or fake, but it gets old pretty fast in a game with their midle blocker. I got a pretty strong spike and if the block gets late i can spike the ball almost on the attack line but if the block is there it becomes really tough... Any advice? Thank you again and great job :)

@JumpVolleyball8 жыл бұрын
Hi Natshok, if you look at our latest video where Ben is passing a short serve and has to transition to hitting, you will see that he adjusts really fast to where to set is going and goes into the ball. A lot of players, will make their normal approach outside the court even when the setter is backing up, but in those types of situations, you have to make sure that you are reading the play and most importantly are ready for anything. The key ingredient is your last step and making sure you are actually going towards the ball. If you get caught hitting the ball over your head or left of your body, you might be leaving too fast which makes it hard to adjust afterwards. Hope this helps
