Jack Danger introduced me to the somewhat hard maneuver "Death Save". Not a legal move in Tournaments, but it's saved me a few balls. If the ball drains down the right, you can hold the left flipper up, and nudge the machine (More than a nudge really, it's kind of violent) to the right just as the ball hits the left wall right before it sinks into it's grave, and the force will bounce the ball back up to your right flipper (which remains down). In my experience, it will definitely trigger "Danger" or "Danger Danger" if you haven't already, but hey. If it's not a full blown tilt, and you saved the ball, then fuck it, Score them points while you can!
@AzrialAlaria3 жыл бұрын
Yeah it's a pretty rough move. I agree!
@parkerbohnn3 жыл бұрын
I do the death save with my hips and jar the middle of the machine. Like a hip check in hockey.
@parkerbohnn3 жыл бұрын
It's easier to use your hips and then slap the side of the flipper left or right as the ball bounces and gets a hip shot in the front middle of the machine. You have to time is right but if you practice a lot you can time it right. This way your fingers are already on both flippers when it drains.

I never really was a huge fan of arcade pinball, more just old school type of video games, until i started playing it on my phone within the past couple of years. Zen had some promotions going or whatever so i said why the heck not? Than i realized after i started playing it that there's quite a few parallels to baseball and it's like the perfect game to play for someone retired from that sport (not that i ever made it to the majors or anything lol, but i did play in various leagues until i was around 30). And since i've started playing on my phone i've gotten pretty dang good at it, just learning on my own. But i must say, that slap save technique though, that's a new one for me so i will def be adding it to my repertoire. 👍

Depending on where the tilt mechanism is set you can also use the bottom of the palms of your hands just above your wrist instead of using your fingers on the flippers. This works especially well in multiball on certain machines like Apollo 13. I still have hand speed as fast as the late Brue Lee and when I save a ball my fingers only come off the flippers by about one-quarter of an inch. I guarantee no one alive can save virtually anything without tilting the machine no matter what the tilt level is set at. You'd have to see it in super slow motion to even see the movement.

Flipper mechanics are NOT the same on every machine you play. Many games have different flipper feels and even different flippers entirely, and even the mechanics between how button presses influence the flippers are not the same. Some flippers can tap pass, some games have staging and some don't (some even have reverse staging?)

@EnCrypticon23x5 жыл бұрын
Sounds like the place probably doesn't have a tech to do simple maintenance. The machines are built to take a bit of a beating. Manufacturers know people will nudge and rock the machine around to keep a ball in play. Sometimes stuff 'breaks' overtime from this, so if they don't have someone that knows how to make fixes, of course they're gonna hate people nudging their machine(s). Most places (at least here in Los Angeles) that have more than a handful of machines, have someone that can do simple maintenance and fixes, so they don't mind you rockin the machine around a bit. I've talked with many owners and bars in LA about their machines and they've all been really cool about nudging. One guy even told me to "feel free to beat the hell out of it.. it will give me something to do later if it fails."

@DeezNutz-yg8io4 жыл бұрын
If you habituate your reflexes to something, it can work. The geometry works against you though. For multiballs this will become a much bigger liability, as making a shot with one will give the others a large geometric window to drain through. As long as you're not haphazardly and constantly hitting flippers it's not a big wear concern. Much worse is the excessively long holds which can burn out flippers in a hurry.

I'm in a different realm when I play a pinball machine. When a game is new I mostly know every bounce its already a forgone conclusion. One a machine that has been played for at least a week and gets worn in then you have to "know" every good shot and every bad shot. The problem even at the world class level is the players can't avoid making a bad shot even if they know what is a bad shot is because their coordination and reflexes doesn't make that humanly possible for them. This is what sets me apart from the rest I can tell anyone if I'm playing and I do make a bad shot I can say that was a bad shot whether or not that makes me lose the ball. I may only make what I know is a bad shot only a few times an hour.
