Hi Jenny Green! I'm grateful to hear from you, and I'm an enormous JP fan! I agree with you that in our lifetime we'll not ever see such performances again. Makes me sad, but Thank God, we still have video! I wish you'd take a look at my many other performances which star Jane! Thank you once more for your kind comments! varadero

Hi kathy 2trips, I'm the poster who you've been gracious enough to thank for at least 2 Jane Powell uploads! Thank you so much! Think I have about 12 or more clips with Ms. P! She's wonderful! I've a friend in Manhattan who has spotted her now and then, and I think she has a home there, and in Connecticut. Her last love, and husband, Dickie Moore, died at 89 nearly 2 years ago. Like you, I'm hoping she's well! Great to hear from you! varadero

A couple of years I was up in my mother's attic and I found an old life magazine. On the front cover was a picture of Jane Powell holding a fluffy kitten. I couldn't believe I have this picture. She is my favorite singer. When I feel down I listen to her sing. She is the best amongst all the singers. The irony of this magazine is that the date of the magazine is my birthday date. I wish I had found it earlier, I would have brought it to a concert I saw her in , I would have asked her to sign it. I'm sure she would have been thrilled to see it. A piece of history.

@enterprisebaby I suspect we're in complete agreement! Jane Powell was/is one of the finest contributors to this amazing era. Sadly, you're correct in that we'll never see movies like this again. I'm grateful to hear from you, and honored that you chose this clip! Thanks so much.

This arrangement of Ava Maria is the best arrangement of this song I have ever heard, and I've heard just about every one by every artist . Jane also sings it the best, she is a superb singer. My favorite forever. She gives Deanna Durbin a good "run for her money". I've seen her in person preforming several times and will never forget her warmth and sincerity. I first saw her when I was in grammar school, and have been following her ever since. I even fenagled a 33 rpm album from my boss that she made. My prise possession, "CAN'T WE BE FRIENDS ". Thank goodness for putting her performance on KZbin. I connect it to my tv, and enjoy watching and listening to her for hours.

Thank you for responding to my comment. "Fanagled", meaning I told him can I bring it home and listen to it, I'll take good care of it. When my mother passed my brother knew I wanted Ava Maria played. Unbeknown to me, he brought up a famous coral singer from Fl. to sing that song for my mother, then she turned right away and went home. It was a very special moment for me. Jane lives in Ct. I always hoped I'd run into her. That would.be super. Take care, and keep putting good Vidios out there.

Hi! My best friend lives in the West 80s, in Manhattan. Some years ago she told me she'd seen Jane in markets in the area. I love beautiful musicals like that. They don't make movies like that anymore. When you see a beautiful voice with a wonderful choir behind it it brings such comfort. It reminds us, that movies were supposed to take us away from reality, even just for a little while. I love watching movies like, the bells of st. Mary's, come to the Stables, the original Miracle on 34th Street, The Quiet Man, and many more movies like that. It's nice to get hypnotized by story, it has a happy ending.

A rare example of lightning striking twice in filmdom: producer Joe Pasternak had made Deanna Durbin a star at Universal and here he was a decade later doing the same thing with Jane Powell at MGM! He even recreated the ending from Deanna' s 1940 film "It's a Date" which had her singing thie Schubert "Ave Maria"! And one again Walter Pidgeon is playing the father.
@mbuck03135 жыл бұрын
I remember Walter Pidgeon played her father in Deana's movie. I thought that was quite a coincidence. So play both artist singing one after the other, Jane wins. !!!!!
