Wonderful sound! Any more videos from recent performances would be much appreciated. Did anyone else notice the white cables ties holding Herr Baumann's mouthpipe to the stay, genious. I used some tie backs today to mend my garden fence, great invention.

If the date of this recording is indeed in 2013 (around Christmas time), Prof. Baumann would have been 79 years of age. He is and it's always been one of the most musical horn players extant.
@rosmarinusofficialis7 жыл бұрын
Yes, indeed. He is 83 years old now. Thank you for watching and commenting. I am sure you enjoyed his rendition of this beautiful Schubert Lied.

rosmarinusofficialis I have been friendly with Professor Baumann since he first performed at Lincoln Center's then-called Philharmonic Hall in the summer of 1973. I have many of his recordings and Momentos including notes that I took at that concert. I am a physician, but, actually a horn player (age 71). Prof. Baumann chose a horn for me in 1977 which I still play. I was the first child-student of John Barrows here in New York.

Thank you very much for telling me that lovely story. Having taught at the Folkwang Schule in Essen, my home town, Herr Baumann lives there still. The above recording was made in a church in Essen-Kettwig during the 2013 Christmas concert which my late brother attended. I see that you are on Facebook, so why not link up with Hermann Baumann on his page. I am a female (perhaps you can deduce my first name from my YT ID) and my age is halfway between yours and Mr. B.'s

Man, Baumann was definitely reaching the borderline on his tone here. If this wasn't Baumann playing, surely it wouldn't be as well liked.
@satinbarbi6 жыл бұрын
I agree 100%. The tone is far to bright and shallow. Where is that beautiful dark tone you usually get from a 103?
@AFGalopp4 жыл бұрын
Still, there's more music and humanity here than in many other execution of Schubert's "Ave Maria". What's more, it's not for everybody keep practicing and performing after a stroke, because of the permanent neuromuscular disorders that it causes.

They are Russian horns. Think of organ pipes. Each horn plays a separate note. That is why some of the players play more than one horn. The lower the note, the longer the horn.

Dear maestro Baumann, I'm a student of John Cerminaro, who told me to listen to all of your recordings. He admires you above all other horn soloists. This piece was his 1st solo. You are so great. Please tell me how to email you. God bless you... JB

I always thought this would sound nice on a horn. Or perhaps a trio or quartet of them. I think a cello would be another nice solo instrument for the piece.

Das ist leider nicht mehr DER Baumann seiner besten Zeit; technisch und musikalisch immer noch sehr schön nur grauenhafte Tonqualität des Alexander 103....

He sounds out if tune, but that is likely due to the tuning of the pipe horns behind him. Li
