You log on Grand Parkway or somewhere else? Also, you are correct, you will 100% need an upgraded transmission if you upgrade turbos...Hell, mine went kaputt even when I was tuning with FBO and MHD. So I upgraded to Propulsive Dynamics transmission. Now I am ready to upgrade the turbos...time to call Mauricio again.
@samsungschi500
@samsungschi500 6 жыл бұрын
FBO + MHD was not likely the reason that your Transmission let go. Rather, it was likely the result of MHD having to under-report torque to the TCU, in order to avoid transmission faults and limp-mode. And, as a result of this under-reporting, the transmission did not adapt to and properly engage gear shifts - causing more slippage between gear shifts under heavy load. XHP Stage 3 addresses this (raised torque limits) when combined with the MHD 'XHP' option (which reports the real toque figures to the TCU). This, alone, would have (more than likely) had your stock AT holding for tens of thousands of miles longer, while FBO. On a seperate/related note, I consider the Propulsive Dynamics transmission upgrade to be top-notch. I would still HIGHLY recommend that you flash XHP Stage 3 and the appropriate option in MHD - to make sure that the transmission operates with knowledge of true torque figures (which the TCU uses to time/calibrate/refine each gear shift, at all varied loads - out of and into each of the gears - manage heat and minimize wear / prolong service life). Otherwise, not doing so WILL subject even your Propulsive Dynamics transmission to premature wear.
@matreyia
@matreyia 6 жыл бұрын
Actually, the input shaft bushing just got worn out from logging. That's it. input shaft controls 3rd to 4th shifting...and it just went out suddenly and never came back. You are trying to diagnose without knowing the situation, the technological options such as MHD or xHP... while these comments may be true for the situation you are describing, they are only assumptions that in the end are incorrect regarding my situation and what led to the tranny failure. All the xHP settings were properly used...it was a case of mechanical wear, nothing else. How do I know this? Because I have been logging for nearly a year with zero issues and the malfunction was sudden and absolute and you could immediately tell that it was physical. Torque limits were not an issue at all. Furthermore, the tranny was properly adapted with ZF driving programming procedure with xHP stage 3 to rule out any potential adaptation value problems. As a matter of fact, even now, each time I update to the latest xHP stage 3 iteration, I do new adaptations to ensure no possible pressure value errors. It is a pain to drive 57 miles on a shoulder lane...but if you want to do things correctly, then you have to do it yourself. OE Stock bushings are quite soft and are not unified in construction. the ring is not a single piece of metal, but rather is a rolled piece of metal that has sliced but out...eventually the fail and very fast under over rated pressures. The Propulsive Dynamics unit has racing special alloy one piece bushings with proprietary bushings that are designed to withstand much more pressure and they will not deform.
@samsungschi500
@samsungschi500 6 жыл бұрын
Thank you for adding color to what actually occurred when your transmission went "kaputt". There was no diagnosing being attempted... was merely speculating (hence, the use of the term "likely"). Sounds like an unfortunate scenario occurred. It's so interesting how what you mentioned... while it holds true... can somehow be eluded by some (oftentimes pushing absurd levels of torque) but not others (with merely an OTS stage 1 tune). Thankfully, though, you now have what I'd consider to be one of the most thoughtful transmission upgrades on the planet. It's also great to see an example of an owner being measured and methodical in their approach to caring after their vehicle. Would you happen to have posted a detailed review of the new PD transmission?
@matreyia
@matreyia 6 жыл бұрын
Eventually there will be a twin review of xHP and PD. Beginning this weekend, I am beginning logging for xHP for a custom calibration to go with the PD unit. It will a be a long process over a couple of weeks since there are multiple xHP flashes which must be adapted to and then driven for a couple of days before each logging happens. One tank of gas after ZF adaptations per each flash should suffice for the car to acclimate to each flash then loggin can be done.

@Drizzi G Youre right its insane. These cars are understated in they hp figures. Ppl dont really look at the factory numbers imo. The 2008 e92 bmw 335xi does 0-60 in 4.8 sec and 13.8 in the quarter. So if you take in consideration a Dci and intercooler upgrade on stage 1+mhd your would easily gap most cars that are upgraded. Just imagine how many cars on the road can actually do 40-100 in 4 secs. My 2008 335xi feels scary fast. And you can maintain the speed with a catch and the injectors cleaned.

I've had catless downpipes on many different turbo cars. There does seem to be a bad smell the first week after removing the cats but if the car is running well it's not bad at all after a while once the exhaust gets flushed out from the extra heat now traveling all the way to your tailpipe instead of getting trapped in the cat.

Answers to this are kinda up in the air, some people are doing fine over 600,but Its not well documented, I have not read much about these tranny's failing too soon After big power as well though, so personally for myself I plan on just getting a used one to keep in my shed incase mine blows up after trying to push 650whp in the future. There are a few rebuild options but I've only heard heavily mixed reviews unless you can work locally with the company that's offering. I think most people for big power just swap in the dct if their slush box fails or do a manual swap. Sorry if I couldn't help but I've been scavenging for information too, it's near impossible to find anything about anything over 500whp with the 6at
