Thanks for posting this! The Burwell family were relatives of my mother’s family. They were descended from Gov. Sir Edward Digges (first cousin of my mom’s ancestor Diana Skipwith Dale) and also from Rev. Edward Foliott (cousin of my mother’s ancestor Col. Thomas Ligon). And yes, they were considered First Families of Virginia.

Chris, Glad you made your way to my favorite little town, Bedford, VA. During the Civil War the Burwells and Avenel were known for housing and feeding soldiers on their way to the training camps in Lynchburg. Thanks for sharing. When you're back in Lynchburg consider visiting Point of Honor.
