The whole structure of society is against the heart; it trains the head, it disciplines the head. It educates the head. It neglects and ignores the heart because the heart is dangerous phenomenon. The head is a machine. Machines are never rebellious, they cannot be. They simply follow orders. Machines are good that way - they are obedient, hence the church, the state, the parents, everybody is interested in the head. It is convenient for all. The heart creates inconvenience for the status quo, for established order, for the vested interest. Head functions through logic. It can be convinced. It can be convinced. It can be made Christian, Hindu, Mohammedan, it can be made communist, fascist, socialist. Anything can be done with the head. You just need a clever system of education, a cunning strategy. Exactly the same as we feed the computers, we feed the head. And whatsoever you feed the head it goes on repeating. It can't make anything new, it is never original. The heart lives through love, and love can never be conditioned. It is essentially rebellion. One never knows where love will lead you. It is unpredictable, it is spontaneous, it never repeats the old, it always responds to the present moment. The heart lives in the present, the head lives in the past.; hence the head is always traditional, conventional, and the heart is always revolutionary, rebellious. But you can be victorious only through the heart, through love, not through logic. And the miracle is that when rebel against the crowd psychology, and you become more and more independent, suddenly you start feeling that you are becoming one with the whole, with the universal. Osho

M Shadows being all about making art and being outside of the box is exactly why I love this band so much, they aren't about the status quo- they're about being themselves and being the definition of what art is. And I also I love how M Shadows is pro-opinion and view, and everyone's allowed to have their own view, effectively being anti-cancel culture. He loves the war just like me and I'm all for it. Avenged Sevenfold have EVERYTHING that you'd look for in a band, creativity, song writing, melody, groove, harmonies, vocal range, guitar playing, tempo, screams, grit, energy, identity, connection, relationships, loyalty, stage presence, live performance and evolution. They're so far out of my usual genre of music that I tried my absolute best not to like them but once you open up to them and listen to them properly, I don't see a way that anyone could not find them innovative and interesting. I found them by the white album and then went backwards and then forwards and I love everything they've done from 'Sounding the seventh trumpet' all the way through to 'the Stage' and the latest single 'Nobody' and I'm certain I'll find the new album just as brilliant as all the rest they've done to date !! This is why Avenged Sevenfold is one of the realest bands out there. I love that he pointed out how music has gone from being an expression of the self into being a tool of commercialism. I respect any band that can stay true to the music and continue to evolve their sound.
@dragons_red Жыл бұрын
It's always had a large element of commercialism, since the 50s at least. That's what separated the "good" bands from the shamed. The problem today is even metal fell into commercialism, and the new kids are playing hyper computerized snap together music. There aren't many organic bands that play with a bit more passion than precision. We don't have a scene that flies in the face of commercialism or the internet based nerd musician culture.
@zappasmoustache23 Жыл бұрын
music has been a tool of commercialism since the 50s. It depends entirely on the artist. I don’t know it to be fact but i’d be willing to bet that there are a lot more underground bands than commercial ones.
@zappasmoustache23 Жыл бұрын
@@dragons_redthere are most definitely scenes that fly in the face of commercialism. There’s still a healthy diy punk scene in most western countries, the doom/stoner metal scene is about as uncommercial as it’s possible to be. Most people are only exposed to what is presented to them by the mainstream and seem to think that’s the be all end all. If you want something with more substance you have to search for it.

It shows that he's a class act when it comes to dealing with all the hate from fans, fellow bands in the scene, and even radio stations not talking about their shows coming up. It feels as though he's the only one going "I did my research, talked to Ronnie, and found that nothing he's accused of has been proven true and in fact he's actually sued someone for lying about him" when all of those bands and fans could do the same and find that Ronnie is innocent.

Waking the Fallen is Avenged's best record. I hope Matts voice is not giving him trouble, looking forward to hearing the rest of the record....hopefully Nobody is as rough as it gets for him (still dug the tune)

I'd suggest looking up a live video of Nobody. I'm not sure why he sounds like that on the music video, but he sounds much more like the M Shadows we're used to when singing live.

If I didn’t already love Matt, this interview would have sealed it for me. I love his opinions on cancel culture, music changes, the need for rock to evolve, and his support of Ronnie. My husband is a “metal/rock elitist” and struggles to support other genres and sounds. It’s so frustrating at times. Do I love all of the outcomes, nope I do not, but I can appreciate that without risk there is no potential for reward and rock has to do something it will die.

First Btw 4:18 The way he is talking about how you not allowed to be dangerous anymore. The exact example is Bam Margera. You have a huge show about being crazy and dangerous, while someone being a drug addict is too much to be involved anymore. Blows my mind and it's the same thins Shadows is talking about.

lmao exactly, the image is cool but actually being that is not in the 80s some bands used to pretend to be junkies cause the image was cool but people didn't actually like individuals like that. One example is the cult and how they used to put iced tea in jack daniels bottles that they chugged on stage, many other people did that too but only they seem to have gotten caught for it

We were in our emo phase in 2007-2008. We were obsessed with A7X and I introduced a friend to their music. She became literally obsessed and later took her life. She told me her favorite song was “I won’t see you tonight”. A7x will always be special to me.

My oldest sons dad and I loved A7X. I won’t see you tonight part 1 was that song we listened to as loud as possible in the car with all the windows down going 100+ on the interstate. Unfortunately he passed away in a car accident when I was 2 months pregnant. Our son has been raised on avenged and we often listen to that song with our hands out the windows to pay respect to his dad. ❤ A7X will always be a huge band for us.

Ill also say on the topic of “New Blood” or mixed genre billing at shows - When I saw *HIM* in 2007, they had Bleeding Through as their opener. That is a pretty wild difference in styles. I gotta tell you, that was a fantastic show. And even better: I was seeing Emo and Goth Kids making friends with Core kids in the crowd. That was a damn cool thing to see. We need more of that in general out there.
