you realy got the true message even before it appeared on the video. you're the only one reactors in youtube who got it so, so well. this song is 50% video 50% music. one of the best musical videos i ever watched. the first time i saw it i just knew the people on the show would become the puppets. the message for me is so clear in this and the part with the white bird makes me almost cry. heavy metal is a beautiful genre full of things like this

So at the end the puppet master above the world leaders is death/the grim reaper. The red button that gets pressed I think ties into two things. But before I say them a big red button is typically used in media for the launch of nuclear weapons. 1) The line that not so subtly hints toward it "when did the walking apes decide that nuclear war was the only solution for them keeping the score" MAD - Mutually Assured Destruction basically soon as one nation launches nukes the other nations will too likely resulting in mankind being wiped out or close to wiped out. Everyone knows this so nobody launches nuclear weapons but it is a dangerous and risky way to have peace. 2) the quote from Einstein "I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones" Point 2 is hinted at by being back in the stone age at the end of the show. The video and lyrics seems to pushing several points. One of them being as you say why do we never learn? This is covered in point 1 basically saying after all our advances we still haven't learned our lessons about war after literally thousands of years we are just walking apes that have reached a point we could wipe ourselves out due to having such powerful weaponry all because we haven't learned from the past. The song also seems to indicate people need to develop critical thinking skills, question what they are told and not just to believe what they are told "tell me a lie in a beautiful way, I believe in answers, just not today" it basically shows how easy it is to go with what we are told. Lastly the song shows how much control people at the top have over the populace. The vast majority of wars have been due to rich powerful people and they send the poor to go fight for them for the benefit of those rich, powerful people who get to live in luxury as it happens (see the WW1 segment, soldiers in the trenches and bunkers below in wretched conditions while the generals are drinking and cheering) There's more that I believe shows how this cycle of violence is a sad part of human nature but I'm having to type this all out on phone so I've likely explained poorly and cannot cover everything about the song.

That’s exactly what the message is exactly. Humanity is smart, but not smart enough to learn from their mistakes. In general people want to live in piece, but politicians and people with a “scarcity” mentality envy others and forcibly take what they have. It’s a simplistic way to explain it, but the “master” seems to be death. The ending is that way stating that the world can end at the push of a button (due to nuclear war) and that hopefully at the next start of civilization we will be smart enough to pursue peace…or be doomed to repeat history. It’s a masterpiece. Amazing reaction and peace and love to you all.

Hell yeah 😎🇺🇸🤟🎶🥰 been one of my top 5 bands for about 2 decades now lol.....also Epica, Trivium, opeth ...along them lines ... although I like tons of music 9:40 so much this !!! if you're focused on the video than you're not 100% focused on the music, I like to just sit with headphones & listen to full studio albums or the same just annoying my neighbors with the loud sound system
